If you have ever had the desire to stand on a mountain peak, where it is hard to breathe and the air presses on your lungs, And when touching a mountain river, your hands cramp from the icy cold and purity, Where firs and cedars tower high above your head, And the air is such that your head spins... ...You must visit the Altai Mountains... After all, nothing is better than mountains, except for Mountains...

Living beside these remote ridges means planning supply runs around vast distances and adapting daily routines to an extraordinarily intact glacial climate.
The Altai Mountains form a massive continental barrier where four countries meet, retaining ancient wildlife ecosystems and early human history.
The range occupies a pivotal junction where Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia meet, feeding the headwaters of the Ob and Irtysh rivers. Glacial terrain transitions eastward into the Gobi Desert and descends southwest toward the Junggar Basin. The peak of Belukha crowns the massif, establishing an alpine territory of severe elevation changes.

A remarkably stable local climate has persisted here since the last ice age, preserving mammal populations that disappeared elsewhere across Eurasia. Ancient caves across the mountain valleys sheltered populations of Denisovans, Neanderthals, and modern humans alongside early domesticated canines, leaving deep archaeological deposits preserved by cold temperatures.

Day 38 Finally, a call from the agency: "Hello Ivan, we found you a construction job, here is the foreman's number." I called and talked to him, he asked where I was from, I said Altai, he had served somewhere near there, he's been in America for 10 years. Then he asked what I used to do and what I can do, and I kept talking until he stopped me and told me to come over to talk. I arrived, and in general, it was a 40-year-old healthy Ukrainian guy. He said he would put me on a Manhattan construction site later because he needs hardworking guys there, but for now, I'll work here. He led me to a huge sanding machine and told me to do 3 rooms, and then the edges with a small manual one. I started working, and after the first room, 2 guys came up to meet me, they were about 25-27, also Ukrainians. They asked with surprise, "Have you done this before? You're sanding better than our foreman" (and indeed, when I started, the foreman had done 1/3 of the room, the rest was mine). I said, "First time." "Where are you from?" "Siberia, Altai Krai." "Wow, are you Russian?" "Well, yeah." "No way, I've never seen Russians work like that, especially on a construction site." "How long have you been here?" "7 years." "And I've been here 2 months." "Why did you want to come here? It's cold in Siberia, right? (and the Ukrainians joined in) Did you come to warm up?" "No, to see the country, earn some money." "Well, that's right." Anyway, we met, and I started the second room, then the third. The foreman arrived, surprised that I finished everything in such a short time, and said, "Vanka, well done! Great job! Now you need to varnish these rooms, but before that, sweep and vacuum everything." I did everything, he came, accepted the work, and was surprised again. In general, he will pay by check for the week's work, the salary is quite good. I went home, ate, and I think I'll go to bed soon, work at 8 tomorrow. For the first time, I like my job, no one yells, they swear but not at me, I close the door, put on headphones, and go. The Ukrainians say this is very hard work here, I tell them to go work in my store in Florida, that's where hard work is. Day 39 Came to work, now I'm working with a guy named Sanya, a little about him: 50 years old, 2 children 27 and 23, has a granddaughter, 10 years in the USA, works here, goes home, buys real estate, rents it out, last year in the USA, went through Afghanistan. You can work with him, but I hear very few Russian words from him, mostly swearing, and he does it to himself. For example, the picture is: sanding parquet, Sanya: "Oh you [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] it all to hell [censored] [censored]." I turn on the machine, you can't hear anything. 20 minutes pass, Sanya: "[Censored] so that [censored] shoots [censored] [censored]." Like that all day. I started bringing headphones to turn on music when I turn off the machine. Anyway, today I had to sand 4 rooms and varnish them. I put on glasses, a respirator, and went for it. The work process for one room is: go over it completely with a huge collider, then the sides and corners with a small one, then sweep everything, vacuum twice, first with a brush on the sides with varnish, and then with a huge, as Sanya would say, [censored] the rest of the floor. I did it, cleaned everything, the Boss came, praised me, and I went home. At home, Parviz congratulated me on getting the construction job and told me to be wary of Ukrainians because they are real bastards, they can set you up at work, in short, a lot of things I don't need; he already had experience working with them. And I've been told this more than once, so I try not to contact them so that nothing happens. I sat at the computer and went to sleep, I have no strength left to go for a walk.
Work and Travel In our time, when everything changes at the speed of light every day, it is sometimes difficult for people to find their place in life. But right now, there are many opportunities for people like me who are just starting their life journey. Work and Travel is a unique international exchange program created for students who want to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of the American nation, improve their conversational English, gain work experience abroad, have fun with new friends, and travel across the vastness of America! Thanks to this program, students can develop their knowledge of the English language and broaden their horizons. I, Elesh Dinara Tolegen kyzy, a second-year student at Astana IT University, am studying Information Security. I love to travel, broaden my horizons, and communicate in English. I dream of visiting the country of the language in the future – England, and if there is an opportunity, other countries as well. By participating in this program, I hope to learn about the culture of other countries, the development of information technologies, and discover something new for myself. From a very young age, I always wanted something more; all the goals I achieved seemed insignificant to me. Even then, I was looking for something that would help me develop not only myself but also help me develop my homeland, Kazakhstan, where I live and study. Among all exchange programs, Work and Travel is what would suit me perfectly. This program characterizes all my goals and desires. Perhaps, having received the opportunity that this program would give me, I will also encounter many problems and obstacles. But despite this, I hope that Work and Travel will help me find solutions to all my problems. Having gone through difficulties like the language barrier and the fear of communicating with strangers, specifically foreigners, I am sure that by the end of the program, I will become a better version of myself. By working and traveling at the same time, I will be able to learn responsibility and adapt to any environment with different people. These are the very qualities that my country and I need. But the purpose of the trip is not only spiritual development. For a long time, I have been actively studying the language that led me to a new culture and this program. But when you live in an environment where English is not used, it becomes increasingly difficult to master it. Therefore, participating in the program would help me improve my English skills. After all, what my teachers taught me and what I learned myself differs from the real conversational English of native speakers. Only by hearing it with my own ears will I be able to work through all my mistakes and things that are unclear to me. I have not had the chance to travel to other countries through this program, but I hope that thanks to Work and Travel, I will be able to share my experience with my classmates in the future. But if I were given the opportunity to go to another country, I would represent my Kazakhstan, as we have our own beautiful traditions and culture, the spacious and wide steppe, and vacation spots like Borovoe, Kapshagay, the Altai Mountains, and the Charyn Canyon. Folk traditions play an important role in our lives. Traditions unite generations, passing on the customs and spirituality of peoples. I know many people, and this amazing program has played an important role in their lives. The way they talk about themselves before and after the program seems amazing to me. Before the Work and Travel program, those people did not yet know that they were actually capable of many things that would help not only themselves but everything around them. Only during and after the program, through their own efforts and the opportunity received, did they realize that they are capable of conquering peaks. After all, at that moment, being in a foreign country, even if it is the country of your dreams, all alone without your loved

07.06.2013 (2) To start with, I was sent in all sorts of directions, including the one you're thinking of. A little later, I figured out it was better to ask the police for directions (I only ran into Black officers). I went down to the station and bought a ticket, not without some trouble, of course. I said "Wells, Maine," after which the ticket agent joyfully informed me that such a city didn't exist in the USA. Soon she caught on and said, "Probably, Wells, State Maine," I replied "sort of" and turned away. I didn't know that you had to clarify what was already obvious. It's like saying "Barnaul, Altai" or "Barnaul, Altai Krai." Anyway, I felt a pit in my stomach, so I went to check out some fast food. The manager of the joint and I spent a long time trying to figure out what I needed; he was grimacing and didn't understand me, but with great difficulty, it all worked out and I ate. I must note that it was tasty, despite my general malaise and nausea (I'd been on the road for too long). I followed the example of the others and just flopped down on the floor, later discovering a waiting room for those with tickets. I managed to figure out the board displaying the routes and directions. The thing is, there are 10 tracks and they all go in different directions. Passengers stand and wait for boarding, and as soon as they see the designated track (you can't know it in advance), they rush toward it headlong, as boarding only lasts a few minutes. While rushing to board, I caught a snippet of Russian speech; a man was talking to someone on the phone. I jumped on the train and found out that I actually had business class with Wi-Fi, outlets, and other perks that were of little use. The outlets were 125V with a different plug than ours (which I hadn't even suspected), my old, dead-as-a-doornail phone wouldn't connect to the internet, and my SIM card didn't work on the phones (I had prudently brought two, remember: always check if your phone supports CDMA). The situation was as follows: the guys in Wells know I'm arriving at night, but they don't know when; I have no way to contact them at the moment; I don't know the address of the house where I'll be living; and I have no idea how to get to the North Station in Boston. In short, it's just how I like it: minimal information, lots of tasks, but I reckon we'll pull through. A girl in the next seat was surfing the net, and I wanted to ask if she knew about 220V outlets and if they could be found on the train, but we never got around to talking. The architecture of NY was stunning, both during my short walk and now on the train. I tried to sleep, but it didn't work... 5 hours later... I started not knowing which station to get off at in Boston, but eventually, I found that info on my ticket and the digital board. I hopped off in Boston and followed the crowd; it was pouring rain and cold. People at the exit started hailing taxis. I thought about the subway, but in the end, I didn't skimp and took a cab. At North Station, I was struck by the number of people in Boston Bruins fan gear. I got lucky; it was the final, Boston Bruins against the Penguins. It felt like the whole city had come to this station just to watch the game. Everyone—young, adult, old, children, people of any height, skin color, profession, or religion—everyone was just in BB gear. They won 1-0 that time, after which the whole crowd started chanting, "We've won the cup." I had fun, in short. I bought something to drink and we headed to Wells. Two hours or so on the road to this coastal town, I had no strength left and kept nodding off. As we were approaching the destination, I got to talking with a man who was getting off at the same place. I told him about the program and my participation in it; he asked why I liked the Yankees (the baseball team), and I didn't understand what he meant. As it turned out, the cap my father gave me was a fan cap for the NY Yankees, and they are die-hard Red Sox (or Sox, never mind) fans h
