Every marvelous adventure begins with a spontaneous decision. Once you’d like to try something new, even have a bit of fear or uncertainty, but then your lifestyle will never be the same. Young people are courageous explorers who are open to the world. Then, something that can change and fill the life of many students calls ‘exchange programs’. I’m not an exception, so I’m ready to get new experience in Work and Travel USA program. Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” Exchange programs are about significant personal changes that have an important influence on the future. Students get an invaluable experience combining new culture, exploring a new city and country, new people and community, and learning new skills and many amazements. Definitely, these expand the worldview, but they can also help in finding yourself and your purpose in life. I’m convinced that youth trips also pump up everyone as a person, so after this experience, the difference with other peers who didn’t participate in it is palpable. So it is about growing up, and I’d say in a speedy, inconvenient at times way. Students are the drivers of change because they have the power to build a better society around them. Therefore exchange programs can be a great tool to recognize what best young people can take from other cultures and implement in their native land. During intercultural interaction in programs, students are able to share their own culture, traditions, and different features with each other, so the result is a combination of something greater. By the way, I hope in America, it is possible to learn and understand their world (I’m sure it will be 100%) and also get to know exciting things from other students from different cultures. Next, exchange programs are one of the most significant types of non-formal education. In schools or universities, we used to have typical studying with books, lectures, teachers, and other standard things, but in youth trips, students have practical lessons. New conditions force you to take care of yourself independently. This is a kind of school of life where students face many challenges – from organizing their budget to finding the necessary place in a new city. Nevertheless, the moment of really growing up also can be great thanks to youth traveling. Everything I described above related to my experience too. In July 2022, I was in Summer School “Waves and Ebbs of Democracy”: Lessons learnt from Central European 'There and Back Again” at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, and it was a great three weeks. Except that we had an educational plan, I spent a fantastic time exploring a new country and communicating with new people from Georgia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Montenegro, and Armenia. Honestly, it was exciting to interact with them and share my thoughts and feelings about russian invasion of Ukraine . Sometimes I recognized that they didn’t understand the Ukrainian context, so my mission was to describe how it happens. I wanted first to introduce them to our culture and then tell them about our history and brave people. Nothing captivates people like food, so I decided to cook Ukrainian traditional cuisine borshch for the group. And they could give thanks by donating to our army. Two goals were achieved: in this way, we joined the victory of Ukraine , and international students learned more about my culture and Ukraine in general. (Video here) Furthermore, this program consisted of traveling in Central Europe, so we were in Budapest, Prague, and Vienna. The best opportunity to combine hard work and funny nights is to catch the moment as we did during our trips. Besides, I realized how similar we are: international students also can have responsible preparation for the test after a crazy night or submitting a task at the last minute. Because previously thought these related to Ukrainian students only, but fortunately,

WHO AM I? First of all, let’s make an acquaintance, I’m Diana, I’m 20 years old, and I’m a student of the faculty of foreign languages. I study English and German and this is truly curious for me. I’ve been studying English since the 8th grade and exactly then I understood that I’m really into this, that’s why I entered the faculty of foreign languages, where I also began to study German. To tell the truth, English always was closer to me than German, and maybe because of it, I know English better. It’s clear that I also wanted to talk to some native speakers to check my knowledge or even confidence. Fortunately, I had such a possibility last year, but before I’ll tell you about it, I must explain the way how I hit this point… 2 YEARS AGO… The first time when I learnt about some exchange programs for students was the first year of my studying at the university. To be more specific, it was the first summer for me as a student, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t want just to rest, I contemplated how to find such an activity, where I could travel and earn some money. At first, I found the program Erasmus+, it’s an exchange program, in which students can study in another country and that’s it. That idea was inappropriate for me, cause I also wanted to clear my mind and not think about studying. Luckily, I watched a video on YouTube, in which a girl told about her participating in Work&Travel USA, after watching I was overwhelmed with emotions, I really liked the idea to go abroad, to another country and earning some money. And that’s why I started to search the information about this program. First of all, I found the stories about other students’ experiences, the information about companies who help the students to make their dreams true, also I learnt all the conditions thoroughly. So, everyone can take part in the program if she or he is: A student (full-time education in higher education institution) A student of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th course of study(not the last one, it’s very important) More than 18 years old Able to speak English at level pre-intermediate Also, I learnt that the program allows going not only to the USA but also to other countries, for instance, to Germany. MY EXPERIENCE At the end of summer 2021, I told my friend about all my ideas and she agreed to go with me, she was truly glad to hear such a suggestion from me. So, we decided to go to Germany. Why did we choose Germany, but not the USA? The answer is quite simple, we were afraid of the huge distance and new, such a big country. But to tell the truth, the idea of the USA was more attractive to me, but the fear was stronger than my desire. Now I understand the previous “me”, but everything changed after the summer of 2022, I’m not afraid anymore, I’ve already been so far from my relatives, friends and it was okay, 3 months or even more isn’t a big term. This participating in Work&Travel Germany became the reboot for me and I liked it so much. When you try Work&Travel once, it will be hard for you to give up. Why did I decide to take part in Work&Travel USA? As you’ve already understood I was glad to spend my summer in Germany as a participant of Work&Travel Germany, but my first desire was exactly the USA. Why? As I study at the faculty of foreign languages, where I study English and German, it would be good for my educational skills. I really like English and even in Germany when I tried to speak German, it was more convenient for me to speak English, then I decided that I will go to an English-speaking country the next time. If all European countries are similar, even Germany and Ukraine , then the USA is quite different. Even in my childhood, when I watched some American movies, I saw that the architecture, people and laws are different; I really enjoyed those high skyscrapers, friendly people and strict laws. Maybe, I’m mistaken, but I want to check it out. Now I’m more confident and if in 2021 I was scared of the thought about the USA, then now I’m
Dear reader, You are very welcome on this page about my journey. My name is Polina, and I would like to express my interest in applying for the “Work and Travel” program. I am 20 years old and I’m also a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Relations of the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. To be honest when I was a first-year student I was thinking about a lot of programs for young people, student exchange programs and so on. I like the idea of studying, working, and living abroad, because what could be more valuable than having one's own experience. No matter how many times you've heard it, it's better to try it yourself once. I have the same story with international exchange programs. I have heard about them many times, but I have never tried them. But in my story, I have not yet tried similar programs on my own experience, because then there was Covid, I returned home again, started working on-line. Time moves very fast, and I really tried to keep up, but then the war started and I, as many Ukrainians, lost myself in all these information and disinformation, forgot to count months. So, now here I am studying in the 4th year, without ever having gone to study or travel abroad as a student. Life seems to flow through the fingers. But let's not be upset! What do I know about the programs? When I was a student at school, I heard a lot about various foreign programs for students. For example, my older cousin went abroad to work and travel by herself, so I was sure that I would do the same. Also, my relatives often talked about international programs, namely that when I enter the university, I should not miss the opportunity to apply for such a program. I am sure that everything has its time, so here I am. I would love to become part of your program because this is the best way for me become independent and find myself. I am especially interested in your organize because this is the way to know yourself. I read a lot, learned about the program “Work and Travel” and most of the participants say that it was in the United States of America that they found themselves. Of course, everyone told that it was difficult, a lot of work, you are left alone in an unfamiliar society, and there is a lot of new and unknown things. I can't make any excuses, because I've never participated, but the reviews inspire me to try and believe that I will succeed. you challenge yourself, try new things and rise like a phoenix from the ashes. So as you can tell from this program I expect challenges for myself, which is quite strange, but I feel like I have to live it. So, of course, I expect new impressions, new sensations and experiments from the program, I want to try to work abroad, feel the atmosphere of life in the United States of America. Probably everyone has dreamed of the so-called "American Dream" at some point in their lives, so this is a great chance to try it. Regarding work, it is quite diverse and you can definitely find something to your liking, there is also an advantage in that we ourselves choose the state where we will live and work. Also regarding housing, this program is a unique opportunity to live abroad, alone, with all the possibilities and negativity, but it is a priceless experience. I also wanted more Americans and foreigners in general to learn about Ukraine . I would like to exchange experience and cultural values. All people are different and we all see the world in our own way, but now there is a war in our country and we live every day as our last, so we cannot let the world forget about us. And working and living abroad, we will exchange experience and make our contribution to the enlightenment of foreigners regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war. I also read many interesting stories when the program participants met and maintained contact with friends from the cities where they lived, so this is a great opportunity to expand your horizons. As I already said, participation in the program will help me
Kubissenova Saltanat IEC Kazakhstan 8th group International exchange program: now and in the future There are many programs available today, in the twenty-first century, that offer the chance to travel, study and work abroad. We witness people successfully returning home after having participated in an international program, providing positive feedback, and recommending others to participate. The key to a future that is sustainable, one where the generation is educated and has a wider worldview, is giving students these possibilities. My university provided me with the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student in Lithuania last semester. At the age of 18 years old, I was a young girl who had never left her home country. Sincerely, it was quite challenging to be alone with strangers and away from home. However, over time, these random strangers turned into my closest friends. During my six-month study abroad, in Lithuania, Samantha and I lived in the same room. In a way, Samantha was my sister, or "sorella" in Italian. This second-year Italian master's student helped me adapt to the community at a foreign university and introduced me to other Erasmus students. It was wonderful for me to be acquainted with individuals from Turkey, Korea, Italy, Spain, Ukraine , Indonesia, Morocco and India since they all had unique personalities and were a part of their different cultures. I made an attempt to manage my courses so that I could return to my former university with a satisfactory grade. At Kaunas University of Technology, where I spent the whole semester studying, we were taught how to learn more effectively. I found that studying in Europe is relatively simpler than in Kazakhstan, considering the practically identical educational system. For instance, we just took the midterm and final examinations at KTU, which felt more comfortable to me than the midterm, endterm, and final exams we take at my own university. Actually, I had four school courses in total, and they were all very different from one another. As a student of mathematical science speciality, I found learning about physics to be somewhat difficult. Despite this, I was able to pass each subject with honors, and I returned to my Suleyman Demirel university with pleasure. A trip to Copenhagen with my friend Elmira from Kazakhstan and two korean girls is among the memories I will not soon forget. We arrived at 7 a.m. without carefully checking our flight while the flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. When we could not find our flight in the list of flights for the following two hours, we became really anxious. We asked the airport employees, after that we recognized our faults, and made the choice to wait for our flight. In the airport, we fell asleep while hugging our luggage. Nevertheless, we traveled about Copenhagen for two days, enjoying traditional delicacies and seeing the origin of the well-known Copenhagen Tigers store. I am delighted to get the opportunity and fulfill a childhood dream of mine by traveling to the city of love, Paris. Even at first glance, it is obvious that this country is a megalopolis with magnificent historical buildings that gives a completely European atmosphere, which I want to return to. Work and travel is one of the well-known programs that helps students find employment abroad and travel throughout the USA. Every year, this program sends a large number of students to America to pursue their dreams. Programs offer all assistance, including aid in locating employment, assistance with obtaining a visa, and contact information for 24-hour emergency services in the USA. With the help of this curriculum, students learn to push themselves beyond their comfort zones and work hard to earn money for fun and pleasure. I want to be in the USA after such an amazing experience with my university's exchange program. I was encouraged to give this program a try by my closest friend who took part in it. After considering all the information, I
