Canberra Airport links the national capital to eastern domestic hubs while anchoring surrounding business estates.

Built on an early airstrip in the Majura district, the grounds developed alongside the federal capital before coming under military control during wartime. The eastern sector took the name of Fairbairn following a fatal crash that claimed several federal ministers. Although the precinct later transferred to private management on a long lease, defence aviators continue to operate transport squadrons from the grounds.
