About the place

Constructed over the foundation of a demolished basilica, this central venue anchors Yerevan cinema culture and public life.

Soviet authorities cleared the ancient church of Saint Paul and Peter to make room for the cinema building, designed by architects Tiran Yerkanyan and Gevorg Kochar. The venue debuted with the landmark Armenian sound film Pepo and later underwent structural redesigns by Kochar and Telman Gevorkyan. Relief carvings on the facade depict memorable scenes from national cinematic works such as Sayat Nova, Chapayev, and David Bek.
