关于此地

A former coastal garrison operates as a self-sustaining national park within city limits.

Congress created an independent federal trust to protect the former garrison after military closure averted a commercial auction. The trust administers the interior territory and historic quarters as a financially self-sufficient entity, while the National Park Service oversees the coastline. Extensive environmental decontamination cleared old post grounds before civilian tenants and public visitors moved onto the property.

Spanish troops established the original outpost using stone gathered by indigenous Ohlone laborers, before Mexican forces and later American infantry took control. The grounds functioned as an embarkation hub for Pacific conflicts, housed military hospital facilities, and sheltered command staff who authorized the internment of Japanese Americans. United States Park Police officers maintain everyday security across the reserve.
