总之,总督岛位于曼哈顿最南端一公里处,顺便说一下,它在法律上是曼哈顿区的一部分 (it is legally part of the borough of Manhattan)。

Dutch settlers landed on the grounds when establishing New Netherland before English colonial governors took control of the acreage. Extensive fill added in later eras expanded the footprint beyond its colonial perimeter. Today the entire expanse provides vehicle-free walkways, open water panoramas, and restored historic brick military quarters.
