关于此地

Singel forms the inner boundary of the historic canal network.

The canal originated as a medieval moat that once marked the outer perimeter of the town. Subsequent urban expansion transformed the defensive ditch into the innermost loop of the semicircular canal belt. Today the waterway curves through the core, functioning as a primary transit corridor for commercial boats and residential barges while remaining lined with preserved architectural facades.

The waterway stretches from the IJ bay near Central Station to Muntplein square, anchoring pedestrian routes across the city center. Living along this alignment requires adjusting to heavy foot traffic, persistent delivery logistics, and limited parking on cobblestone quays. The immediate proximity to the central rail terminus provides unmatched regional mobility, but the trade-off remains constant public activity outside.
