关于此地

Donatello and Michelozzo built this monument inside the Florence Baptistry to conclude a disputed papacy.

The marble and bronze structure stands against the interior wall of the Baptistry beside the cathedral. Donatello collaborated with Michelozzo to execute the commission following instructions left by the executors of Baldassarre Cossa. Their integrated composition helped define early Renaissance Florentine sculpture, combining classical architectural framing with cast metal portraiture inside a premier civic space.

Historians mark this site as the sepulchre of the Western Schism and the final papal tomb erected outside Rome. For long-term researchers based in Florence, examining the details demands navigating strict cathedral perimeter access and heavy pedestrian queues. Studying the carving up close requires planning entry during quiet morning hours before tour groups fill the building interior.
