Catedral Metropolitana Ortodoxa anchors the local Antiochian community with architecture drawn from Hagia Sophia.
The cathedral belongs to the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and stands along Vergueiro in the Paraíso district of Vila Mariana. Its monumental Byzantine design draws inspiration from Hagia Sophia. Construction proceeded under the direct supervision of Paul Taufick Camasmie, with architects Francisca Galvão Bueno and Igor Sresnewsky.

Artisans from abroad shaped the interior, including Joseph Trabulsi, whom King Farouk of Egypt selected to assist with decorative work. Sculptor Wladimir Krivoutz produced the elaborate marble iconostasis. The completed building opened during municipal anniversary festivities and received consecration from Patriarch Elias and Metropolitan Ignátios Ferzli.
