Clare College is an ancient university foundation defined by river gardens and a celebrated choral tradition.

The institution began under university chancellor Richard Badew as University Hall before early financial hardship prompted an intervention by Elizabeth de Clare. Her endowment refounded the collegiate body as Clare Hall, securing support for fellows and scholars behind only Peterhouse in institutional seniority. The community later adopted its current title and continues work as an educational registered charity.
