Scottish entrepreneur Francis Mackenzie divided the surrounding plots, establishing residential settlement alongside a socialist gathering hall.

Wartime authorities replaced the unregulated intersection with a circular roadway and laid a massive underground drainage trunk. That collector still routes groundwater from the hills of Vračar and Zvezdara down toward the river. These expansive subterranean sewage tubes continue to block modern municipal plans for pedestrian tunnels, forcing daily commuters to negotiate heavy surface vehicular traffic.
