The remaining stone structures, including churches and residential quarters, date from later medieval rebuilding periods that followed centuries of raids and fires.

Industrial extraction later altered the landscape when miners worked galena lead deposits at the head of the valley. That industrial activity eventually ceased, leaving the area to recreational walkers, rock climbers, and trail users who navigate the maintained paths across the valley slopes and around the twin glacial lakes.
