Commercial transit and banking capital define the urban fabric along the Pacific canal approach.
Panama Viejo originated on the Pacific coast before pirate raids forced the settlement to relocate into the fortified peninsula of Casco Antiguo. That historic quarter preserves a blend of colonial, art deco, and Caribbean architecture alongside historic Catholic churches. Coastal viaducts now skirt the old sea walls, creating waterfront promenades while conservation efforts maintain protected historic architecture.

Interoceanic shipping through the canal drives the metropolitan economy, establishing the city as a center for international commerce, maritime logistics, and offshore banking. Multilateral corporations, accounting firms, and regional legal practices concentrate across high-density financial districts such as Marbella and Obarrio, where commercial towers and international hotel brands dominate the urban skyline.
Urban transport centers on modern rapid rail lines, scheduled city buses, and zoned yellow taxis that navigate persistent street congestion. High levels of private vehicle ownership regularly clog main avenues, prompting long-term residents to rely on the metro network or app-based rides to move between residential neighborhoods like El Cangrejo and outlying commercial hubs across the metropolitan district.

How do public buses and the metro work in Panama City?
The urban transit network relies on an underground and elevated rail system alongside modern municipal buses. Riders pay transit fares using a reloadable electronic transit card instead of cash. Standard buses connect urban corridors, while express routes utilize dedicated highway corridors.
Kaynak: Wikipedia · Wikivoyage · WikivoyageHow are taxi fares calculated in Panama City?
Street cabs do not use meters and operate on a zone-based fare structure established by the transit authority. Surcharges apply for calling ahead or adding passengers to the ride. Ride-hailing mobile applications operate alongside traditional street taxis.
Kaynak: Wikipedia · WikivoyageWhich airports serve Panama City?
Tocumen International Airport operates as the primary hub for incoming international flights on the outskirts of the metropolitan area. Marcos A. Gelabert Airport at Albrook handles domestic air routes to destinations across the country. Pacífico Airport accommodates select regional air carriers on the former canal military grounds.
Kaynak: Wikipedia · WikivoyageWhat is the difference between Panamá Viejo and Casco Viejo?
Panamá Viejo contains the stone ruins of the original colonial settlement that fell to a pirate raid. Casco Viejo is the historic walled quarter established at a new coastal site to resist maritime attacks. The rebuilt district holds colonial churches, plazas, official buildings, and UNESCO World Heritage status.
Kaynak: Wikipedia · WikipediaWhich neighborhoods are recommended for accommodation and which require caution?
Central banking and commercial districts such as Marbella, El Cangrejo, Obarrio, and San Francisco offer safer environments for visitors. Bordering neighborhoods including El Chorrillo, Santa Ana, Curundu, and San Miguel experience gang activity and require strict avoidance. Travelers walking around historic areas should remain attentive to territorial borders between districts.
Kaynak: WikivoyageWhere do long-distance and international buses depart?
Domestic and cross-border coaches operate out of the Gran Terminal Nacional de Transporte adjacent to Albrook. Long-distance routes link the capital to interior provinces and international destinations across Central America. Entry to the boarding platforms requires swiping an electronic terminal card at turnstiles.

I've been looking for a job for three days now with no results... Well, this isn't Panama City Beach after all... A microscopic resort town... And this is, you could say, a metropolis=)(compared to Panama City Beach, where I was last year, San Francisco is just a metropolis!!!).... I was already starting to give up... Today I went out to look for work again..... And.... Where didn't I fill out applications, where didn't I hand out resumes, and in the end.... I walked into a restaurant and ran into the owner. She asked me to fill out an Application, she interviewed me right there, I had to lie a little bit that I have Serve experience=) and they told me to come to work tomorrow... I left full of joy.... I'm walking and thinking, but tomorrow I have to pick up my sister at the airport.... I went back and said, this and that.... They asked me to come on Monday already in uniform and train together with Marina (definitely Russian). Then I went into a large complex... they asked me to fill out a resume again... 2 managers interviewed me and said to bring documents for processing on Tuesday... Woohoo.... I went further and stumbled upon another cute restaurant... I thought, let me go in... I went in, they asked me to fill out an application.... A manager interviewed me.... He says, what's your favorite dish... Well, I tell him "Hash puppies"... He says, try to sell it to me... Well, I sold it to him=))) He says, what position do you want... I say, well, I don't know, maybe try as a Host first, he says, oh super, I'm actually the Host manager.... Now, he says, I'll call your manager in Panama City Beach and ask how you worked there last year.... Well, I say, ok=) He went to call.... My hands got sweaty from excitement..... He came back and says... "Well, Andrey liked how you worked last year. COME TOMORROW FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER." I went for a walk around the city.... It was so hot today that my shoulders even got sunburned!
Day 23 I got up at 4 a.m., pulled out all my suitcases, and woke up Ksyusha since she was the only one who decided to say goodbye to me. We sat around waiting for the taxi, and she told me about their trip to the store yesterday with the "accountant," which made me laugh. The taxi arrived, we said our goodbyes, and I headed to the bus stop, waited for the bus, and set off for New York. The first stop was Panama City. I had wanted to move there, but I thought it would be better to go to a big city. The stop was 40 minutes long; I wanted to walk around and take some photos, but my batteries died, so I had to get photos for my page from the internet. I really liked that Greyhound stops are located in the city center, meaning you can see the city in all its glory. Panama didn't differ much from Pensacola, except that the city was prettier; I never actually found a city in Pensacola. I walked around, got on the bus, and continued my journey.
Destin, Florida Yesterday we took our last walk on the beach. At night. There was no other time, because work ended at ten in the evening, and then our Russian and American friends stopped by the Russian house to say goodbye. After we saw everyone off, I, Natasha, another Natasha, and Lena went for a walk on the beach. It was windy because a storm had recently passed. The full moon was shining, and silver glints reflected on the noisy waves that hadn't calmed down yet. Lightning flashed in the distance. - That's it, the storm moved toward Panama City, which means everything will be calm in Fort Walton tomorrow... we'll fly out... - as always, I found time to philosophize... - My God, how familiar these names are now! Destin, Niceville, Fort Walton, Panama City!... - Girls, you are leaving and it's like a piece of me is going with you... - Natasha from Chelyabinsk says thoughtfully, - two tenths, two out of ten! - Exactly! Ira left - that was one tenth, and now there are two of us... Today is August 14th. Exactly two months since we arrived in Destin. And we are leaving. Everything was planned long ago - Melissa and the Grand Canyon are waiting for me in Arizona, and I am truly very excited, but that doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye to the girls, our "Russian house", "The Commons", "Maui Nix", "Cold Stone", Destin, and Florida - this life looks like a bright postcard on the surface, like a funny story, but that's not the case - these two months in Florida are not a story, this all happened to me. I worked until the very last day. Four hours after our night farewell to one of the most beautiful beaches in the USA, I was already biking to "Abercrombie and Fitch". Since that incident a couple of weeks ago, when I wasn't supposed to work but they called me at 7:35 AM and I came in at 8:00 anyway, they started putting me on the earliest morning shifts on Wednesdays and Thursdays, when a lot needs to be changed in the store: putting out new merchandise, changing clothes on mannequins, and so on... And that's great, because one job doesn't overlap with the other. Today I worked from 7 to 12. I only "woke up" when the store opened - at 10. To "Mambo No. 5" - the only song at "Abercrombie" that makes me move faster. 11:59 12:00 - that's it. End of work! Work, good bye! Hello, travel! A photo for memory and I'm running to "Cold Stone" - Olya from Vladivostok is working there today, and I need to say goodbye. We are sitting by the back entrance of "Cold Stone", among boxes, bags, and other trash - two Russian girls, two out of ten, one is a sales assistant, the other is an ice cream maker... - I'll be living at Brian's after September 1st, when we all move out. Can you imagine, I'll be living in an American family! - Well, that's cool! You know how useful that will be for your English! We go outside. Passersby turn around and look with interest at the two girls - one of them in the black "Cold Stone" uniform, the other in the "Abercrombie" dress code. The ice cream maker girl hugs the sales assistant girl. - Thank you! You always supported me! - Olya is crying. - And thank you too! Maybe we wouldn't have become friends if we had just met in normal life, in Russia. But with you, I definitely would have become friends, and how! ... I cross the intersection of Crystal Beach Drive and US 98 for the last time, turn onto Luke Avenue, then onto Cobia Street, put the bike in the middle of the yard - Hanna should recognize it immediately, it's her bike now. - Oh, my girls are getting ready! - Karina enters the room. - They are coming for us any minute. - Who? - Carey from work. The flight was delayed by two hours, I'm worried, the layover in Atlanta is now only half an hour, and that's the biggest airport in the country!.. Do you need the "Abercrombie" bags? - Yeah, give them here! - Have a safe flight and don't kill any Americans, - Tyler gives me parting advice. - I'll come back and kill you!, - I hug him, - thank you for everything, Ty
