AMERICAN DREAM OF KAZAKH GIRL

AMERICAN DREAM OF KAZAKH GIRL Hey there! Hope you are having a beautiful day! If you’re not, I bet you, this essay will cheer you up! I am Alua, a little dreamy girl from small town in Kazakhstan and also bold woman who is getting all her dreams come true. I’ve been living in Earth Planet for almost 18 years by now. In this essay I would like to share my own story about a small and funny trip and my fare thoughts about everything! How the things got started When I was at elementary school my relatives used to travel all over the world, they have seen the oceans, seas and mountains. 11 year old me was so interested in it and asked my parents to see the lake. I couldn’t ask for anything else. And my parents couldn’t afford anything better, because they were literally broke. When the summer came my parents told me that we’re going to Issyk kul . That’s a mesmerising lake located in Kyrgyzstan. So that was my first time when I was on cloud nine and felt like a cool girl from Vogue who is travelling to “foreign” countries. We were group of 6 people and used to live in yurt with other travellers for almost 14 days. I was browsing so many stores with my mom without buying anything and we were hanging around enjoying the local food and city. In the evenings we were swimming in the lake and just appreciating the sparkling water. Once upon a time, in early morning, I thought about going to the lake without my phone. I grabbed my book, hat and sheet to relax and chill out on the coast. After 2 hours of having a rest I was thinking about getting back to the yurt to eat my breakfast. But I forgot the way back:) I was stressed as hell, walking around big coast just to find my parents , but they didn’t appear. I didn’t remember the name of the street, or the yurt number. But I found the best way how to find my parents. Nah, I wasn’t waiting for them on the coast, anyway I entered all yurts and asked if there were my siblings or parents. Finally, I could find them by their flip-flops after 2 hours of searching! And you guess what?! I met a bunch of lifeguards who were searching for me too, cause my family thought I got drowned. In the end I got a big slap from my mom. It all might sound ridiculous, but actually I was living the best part of my childhood and I was definitely the happiest person in the world. Why I decided to participate in Work and Travel program? When I was studying at 2nd grade of elementary school I was lucky to have a teacher who was smart, very kind and soft to kids. By the way, my teacher was from America and she had a spectacular american accent. She taught us how to sing the alphabet like “A-B-C-D-E-F-G”… I sang it with her and she was teaching us for some basic words in English, but I could not understand the single word. Can you imagine?! American girl who speaks only English and does not understand kazakh or russian and kids who don’t know her language, holy crap! Anyway, I was having fun and enjoying my English classes. I remember that I was dreaming how I will speak English fluent and teach it to others. It turned out that I got my IELTS certificate and got a job as an English Teacher and now I have so many lovely students, that’s what I am passionate about! At high school I found the page of blogger Marina Mogilko and discovered such a stunning city San-Francisco and that became my dream city. 50 states of America seem like a dream and my future destination for summer of 2023. Endless opportunities, feeling of self-confidence, ambitions and business streak are all about America! I’ve been carrying that dream for 7 years and I hope I will reach all my goals related to the United States through Work and Travel program. How can I help my country to grow by participating in W&T program? The thing is that Exchange program students give a great influence on local students. I think this statement is pretty understandable for well-educated people, cause they know the importance of diversity. To have a society where all s

Anelya AbildinaOku
together to a better future

Greetings to everyone reading my story regarding the W&T Program. My full name is Abildina Anelya, currently I am 19 years old. I was born in the Northern part of Kazakhstan, and lived in my hometown- Ekibastuz for 12 years, then from 7th grade till 11th I have studied and finally graduated a Kazakh-Turkish Lyceum for Gifted Girls in Pavlodar, and now I am a sophomore student at KAZGUU University. I know 4 languages which are Kazakh, Russian, English and Turkish. Also, I was self-studying Korean, and now, I’m learning French at the university walls. Honestly, I have such an indescribable love regarding new languages and cultures. I do enjoy watching youtubers such as Varlamov, or Anton Ptushkin, «ТОПЛЕС» and others. They film whole episodes about the countries they visit, tell their history and experiences the face with. This, I could say, the most entertaining way of time spending, plus it’s kind of business with pleasure thing. Now, after I finished scholar’s life and entered a student’s life, I immediately thought that I have to do something with my life, since I am becoming an adult. For me, school life and university life differ a lot. Personally, I could not wait to eventually graduate the school and it’s all because of a freedom and personal right of choice which now, I have at the university. With all that, I want to brighten my life myself, step by step, facing and learning through difficulties (and not) that could happen to me. I understand, and hopefully I am more than just ready to put as much effort as I am able to, to make my current dreams eventually become my reality. At this young age, I believe, that our generation can make unbelievable things and changes not just in our lives, but worldwide as well. We all are full of enthusiasm and charisma that can lead us to reach something in a highe degree. Personally, I believe in myself. This is why, I am applying to this program, to try my best to take a step forward to a better future. Frankly, The US was something frightening and unreachable my whole life, I was grown with Western music and TV series, as well as the other representatives of my generation, and that seemed to be beyond of my reality. However, after maturing, I realized that everything in this life is as possible as you allow to think about that in your brain. While searching information about the program, I suddenly stopped myself and imagined what is it like to take a plain to your dream city of New York, wake up every day to these beautiful sunsets, chat with an American, order from Amazon your favourite books in original, not just translated version and everything else that a person just can think of. I just want to see where not only influencers get the inspiration and motivation from. How do locals catch the vibe and what is it like to live a real American life. Moving onto the questions, what I hope to learn and achieve by enrolling to this program is the opportunity to travel abroad, to get to know the culture and mentality of the US. Indeed, watching Instagram stories from the phone and actually seeing everything with own eyes hits different. Honestly, what I am really into experiencing is the way of how I would act all alone by myself overseas. As was mentioned before, I have been away from home from early teen ages, and now, hanging that chance to be completely apart from even my country excites me in totally different way. I would like to see how stressful and mature I am, to see me grow by facing an enormous numbers of different life situations. After all, I think if I haven’t matured enough yet, there, I, 100% will. Also, one thing I want to get from this travel is increased list of soft skills. As we all know we only develop our soft skills by communicating every day with people. Along with these, I would like to test and look at myself after the journey. In what way have I changed, what perspectives do I hold now, what have changed considering my beliefs and stereotypes. This is going

Why Work and Travel? Рассказ о моем опыте на конкурс.

Orynbay Aruzhan,3 Group Exchange programs create opportunities for participants to learn about a new country and its nation, develop interpersonal skills, and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. It is common to say that exchange programs create future leaders who appreciate international collaboration, tolerance and empathy. Above all that, I see this W&T program as a way to challenge myself and see what I am capable of. Living and working in another country with strangers is like forcing myself into the most uncomfortable situations and adventures possible. But I choose to do it myself because we can only grow when we are out of our comfort zone. I also do not think that the grass is always greener on the other side, I won’t be in the US screaming about how everything is great there and bad at home. I believe that there are pros and cons to each side and the best we can do as countries are to share our experiences and grow together as nations. What I plan to learn from this trip is hard work, I plan to mature, get more physically developed, and become more outgoing. I want to hear funny or not-so-funny life stories from my coworkers, my boss, and strangers I will meet along the way. Why do I want to experience hard work? I think most of my life I was pretty privileged. I studied in a nice private school, I got to do different sports and hobbies. My friends always had what they wanted, they never had to work for it. So when I got my first job two years ago, it turned my life upside down. I was looking for a job because I was bored in summer, and my coworkers- kids my age would work 12-hour shifts because they needed that money. I learned how to appreciate what was given to me, I learned to appreciate people’s work and my life as it is. When I told my friend from university I am going to participate in W&T. He said “Are you kidding me? You are spending all your time studying computer science just to go the US and wash dishes there?!”. I realized how privileged and arrogant some people can be and how I would never want to have that kind of perception of life and arrogancy towards people who do hand work like washing dishes. So for me, the W&T program is not just a way to spend a crazy summer far away from my parents. It is a way to teach myself a lesson one more time, learn discipline, learn the work ethic of another nation, and give myself the motivation to keep studying and be grateful for everything that I have. In the near future, I would like to finish my Bachelor's degree and get my Master's and Doctorate degrees while practising and working as a software engineer. But most importantly I would like to be a researcher and teach at my university(KBTU) as my role model Pakizar Shamoi. Pakizar teaches my Object Oriented Programming course right now at KBTU and is the greatest Professor I ever came across during these 2 years of college. Pakizar got her PhD in Japan and I feel like it is an important part of her journey that I want to experience too. I think a lot of her work ethic and dedication comes from people she met in Japan and the obstacles she had to overcome to get there. That is why I want to experience other nations’ cultures, work systems, their educational system like my role model did. I want to learn networking and I feel like spending a summer in the US would help to develop the soft and hard skills that I need to achieve my ambitious goals. It would give me more experience of living abroad that I will need if I will get my Master's or PhD abroad. Hopefully in future when I will teach at KBTU I will be able to tell my students stories about me travelling across the US and other countries like Pakizar does in her lectures. Talking about the culture of my country, I want to talk about our youth. About how many talents from Kazakhstan are now in comedy, music, cinema and technology? I would tell them about Moldanazar, whose music I adore, Aisultan Seitov and his recent movie «Қаш», about Sanzhar
