Las Murallas residents navigate daily around this towering landmark while managing the infrastructure limits of Old Havana.
Designed by architects Esteban Rodríguez-Castells and Rafael Fernández Ruenes, the structure arose as the corporate headquarters for the Bacardi Rum Company. The property occupies a corner plot at Calles Monserrate and San Juan de Dios in the Las Murallas quarter of Old Havana. It remains celebrated across Latin America for its preserved Art Deco composition, featuring detailed exterior lines and classical proportions.
The Castro administration nationalized the site following political shifts across the country. An Italian construction enterprise later carried out extensive restoration work to stabilize the tower and safeguard its architectural integrity. Inside the public and office spaces, original decorative finishes in imported granite and marble remain intact, providing visitors and local professionals with an authentic period atmosphere.
