    Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport operates as the largest aviation hub in Estonia.

    The airfield occupies former industrial land beside Lake Ülemiste, named in honour of former president Lennart Meri. Early soft ground restricted runway use in spring and autumn, forcing flights to rely on seaplanes stationed on the lake or touching down on frozen winter ice. Engineers resolved seasonal ground closures by pouring triangular concrete runways that permitted takeoffs and landings in multiple directions.
