Commuters and fans converge directly from Union Station through underground corridors, turning this corner of Bay Street into a massive pedestrian bottleneck on game nights.
The arena stands on Bay Street in downtown Toronto as the home base for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors. Professional hockey and basketball matches dominate the winter schedule, while the Toronto Marlies, Raptors development affiliates, and the Toronto Sceptres take the floor for selected fixtures. Non-sporting dates bring touring concerts, political conventions, and competitive video game tournaments to the main bowl.
The parcel was reclaimed from the inner harbour through decades of railway lake infill before becoming a federal mail depot. Architect Charles Dolphin blended Art Deco and Art Moderne styles into the concrete structure, linking it directly to railway platforms through an underground tunnel. Historic limestone bas-relief carvings by Louis Temporale remain on the exterior facade, tracing Canadian communication from messengers to aviation.
