Komische Oper Berlin stages opera, operetta, and musical theatre across alternate locations while its historic quarters undergo reconstruction.

Architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer designed the original theatre for a private society, inaugurating the stage with operetta and ballet. Operating successively as Theater Unter den Linden and Metropol-Theater, the hall gained prominence through revues and Franz Lehár premieres staged by Alfred and Fritz Rotter. Wartime bombing destroyed the historic façade and ceiling murals, prompting an emergency postwar revival.
