Built as the headquarters for the state bank, the skyscraper stands as a prominent reinforced concrete tower in the historic center.

The skyscraper emerged as the flagship headquarters for the state bank, taking inspiration from classic Art Deco high-rises and early American skyscraper design. Engineers selected reinforced concrete for the entire load-bearing frame instead of steel. The rooftop viewpoint overlooks the central basin, making the tower an unmistakable orientation point across the skyline.

Following banking privatizations and municipal heritage listing, the interior transformed into a cultural hub known as Farol Santander. Long-term residents use the site for rotating art exhibitions and public viewing decks rather than financial business.
