About the place

Astana Arena anchors the sports district of the capital, hosting international football fixtures and major arena concerts under an enormous sliding roof.

The stadium functions as the home venue for FC Astana and the primary ground for the national football squad. Sports architecture firms Populous and Tabanlioglu designed the venue with a movable roof structure, making it the largest sports arena in the country. It originally carried the name of wrestler Kazhymukan Munaitpasov before adopting its municipal title. The pitch hosts league fixtures alongside international qualifying ties.

Severe steppe winters present structural trials for the facility. Heavy accumulations of ice and snow once fractured overhead glass inserts, sending debris into the bowl.
