Mar-a-Lago stands as a private coastal estate and landmark club defined by high-society heritage and political prominence.

Cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post developed the oceanfront property alongside Edward Hutton as an elaborate winter retreat. Architect Marion Sims Wyeth and designer Joseph Urban shaped the sprawling compound with ornate decorations and ballrooms. The estate earned federal landmark designation for preserving historic boom-era architecture, regularly hosting international galas and charity balls.

Following the founder's death, the estate was deeded to the federal government to host visiting leaders, but high upkeep costs prompted its return to private hands. Donald Trump purchased the grounds to establish a private members club, adding recreational amenities and a grand ballroom while retaining original details. Today the site functions as a restricted club subject to intense security screening.
