Guerrilla art became an enduring emblem of market resilience.

Artisan Arturo Di Modica designed the massive bronze bull following a major stock market decline. He financed the casting independently and dropped it outside the stock exchange building without prior official approval as an unsolicited present to the city. Police promptly impounded the piece, but intense public interest forced municipal authorities to grant it space nearby.

The sculpture occupies public space along Broadway under temporary permissions rather than municipal ownership. Although intended as a loan display, the installation persists through decades of legal disputes over merchandising rights and commercial photo usage. Daily pedestrian congestion around Bowling Green remains a constant reality for anyone commuting through Lower Manhattan.
