Sumet Jumsai designed the structure to reflect modern banking computerization through a distinct mechanical form.

The Robot Building stands in the Sathorn business district as the headquarters for United Overseas Bank. Architect Sumet Jumsai originally conceived the project for the Bank of Asia to express the rise of computerized financial systems. Its architectural profile deliberately pushed back against prevailing neoclassical and postmodern trends, using stepped walls and functional external elements to shape the distinct robotic profile.

Practical requirements shape the building alongside its visual identity. Receding exterior walls, decorative eyes, and rooftop antennas serve operational roles while creating the mechanical exterior. The property represents one of the final major modern architecture statements in Bangkok. For residents working in Sathorn, the landmark anchors an otherwise dense financial district dominated by uniform corporate towers.
