About the place

Tachū Naitō designed the steel landmark to anchor Odori Park.

The observation landmark stands at Odori Park, planned by Tachū Naitō following his engineering work on Tokyo Tower. Beyond sightseeing decks overlooking downtown avenues, the mast functions as an active broadcast relay for radio stations including AIR-G and FM North Wave in coordination with the transmitter station on Mount Teine. Prominent digital clocks donated by Matsushita Electric Industrial define the exterior profile.

Konosuke Matsushita initiated the public clock installation to attract civic attention, which later transitioned to light-emitting diodes under Panasonic sponsorship. Renovations updated the interior with dark green wall panels across lower observation floors. The structure regularly features in Japanese pop culture, appearing as a cinematic target in Godzilla and Gamera films as well as gaming backdrops in Yakuza and Persona.
