A story about the Work and Travel program How did I find out about the program? Seeing America… it’s a long-held dream. Perhaps my favorite movies and series filmed by American studios, English songs, and even the beloved GTA had a big influence on this;) I found out about the Work and Travel program quite a long time ago, while in middle school, I think, like most people, through YouTube;) Since then, my recommendations have been perfectly tuned, and I often got lost watching videos about the States. But, watching the beautiful picture from computer and phone screens, this big dream seemed like something very distant and unattainable, something exclusively for the “chosen ones,” the “rich,” the “specially gifted,” in general, not like everyone else… or… not like me… But that was until a certain point. Then I found out that an acquaintance of mine was in America and, as it turned out, through this program! What a surprise it was! He could do it! That means it’s possible! Why am I any worse? After looking at his photos, supplemented by a bunch of interesting stories about the experience gained at the workplace, the town he lived in, and the second bright part of the program - traveling, I realized - I need to act! Work and Travel is a program that brings together thousands, tens of thousands of students from all over the world to the USA during summer vacation, a program that gives you the opportunity not only to immerse yourself in “American life,” but also to learn about a number of other nationalities, their culture and everyday life, as well as introduce them to your own native culture and, likely, break many stereotypes and prejudices. Golden Gate Bridge: cosa c’è intorno, come arrivare e quando andare · 2026
Cyclists crossing into Marin County learn quickly to check strait wind reports and fog patterns before committing to a daily commute over the water.
The suspension crossing over the Golden Gate strait connects San Francisco with Marin County across open water.
The suspension structure spans the strait between the northern tip of the peninsula and Marin County, connecting San Francisco Bay directly to the Pacific Ocean. In addition to carrying federal and state highway traffic, the span accommodates pedestrians and long-distance cyclists following designated bicycle routes. Engineers from the American Society of Civil Engineers designate the span as an engineering wonder.

Before construction, marine ferries provided the only transit between the peninsula and northern counties, which slowed urban growth compared to national averages. Early engineering assessments claimed a fixed span could not survive the deep channel, swirling tidal currents, high winds, and dense coastal fog. Military authorities raised national defense objections, fearing collapsed wreckage could trap naval ships inside the harbor.
Commercial ferry operators launched lawsuits and faced passenger boycotts while trying to block the construction of a competing roadway across the water. The project moved forward once federal authorities granted military land permits, backed by rising industrial interest in automobile road networks. Modern residents commuting across the span face sudden drops in temperature and heavy head winds on the exposed pedestrian decks.

"Golden Gate Bridge", "Golden Gate" or "Suicide Bridge". Incredibly huge, beautiful, and magical. Seeing in person what you've seen a million times in American movies is priceless! By the way, why "Suicide Bridge"? 2-4 suicide cases a month, dozens of cases a year, and thousands over its entire existence. Now it is constantly patrolled. Telephones are installed along the spans to connect with a crisis center. Nearby are signs assuring that there is hope. And all this gives a sense of an unsolved mystery, especially at night. P.S. By the way, the police didn't let us reach even the middle of the bridge. Catching up with us in their small special vehicle, they asked us to turn back and followed us from behind the whole time to make sure we definitely reached the start of the bridge.
I have a special connection to San Francisco, so to speak. Whenever I hear the name, Scott McKenzie's song "San Francisco" plays in my head. And the lines: "If you are going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..." I love this city; you know, it's not your typical American city. Yes, it has skyscrapers, huge traffic jams, cool cars—the list goes on forever—but it's different. The people there are different, somehow; they are kinder, they strive for something, they are constantly growing. And the weather, for me, is just perfect. It's +20 all year round; sure, it could be a bit warmer in summer and colder in winter, but that doesn't change the overall vibe. San Francisco reminds me of Italy in some way. I highly recommend visiting the "Palace of Fine Arts"; then you'll understand what I meant. The architecture there is incredible, and the houses around it also look more European. And if you are traveling as a couple, I recommend a romantic spot called "Shoreline Park." It's actually in Silicon Valley, but it's worth it. Most importantly, bring some food and a blanket; I can tell you for sure, there is plenty to enjoy there, especially at sunset. Of course, don't forget the most important places like the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Lombard Street, or Twin Peaks. They are a must-visit. I've been to San Francisco twice; apparently, I fell in love with it so much that I returned a second time. I ended my first trip to this city with a hike to "Lands End," and you know, I had only seen such scenery in pictures on the internet. At that moment, tears involuntarily welled up in my eyes, and I felt very sad that in a few hours I would be leaving. For me, it was the perfect place in every sense. And seeing the waves crashing against the rocks is a mesmerizing sight. On my second visit, I dedicated a whole day to the tourist town of Santa Cruz. It's about a two-hour drive from San Francisco, maybe less. For me, it was like a little Los Angeles—the same palm trees, the same beach. You won't believe it, but the weather was even +35, which is very rare for Northern California. You can get there by car or by bus. If you are traveling with a group, order an Uber or Lyft and go for it; it won't be expensive, but if you still want to save money, the bus is also an option. To be honest, I could go on for a long time because I love this city. I want to keep some places as my personal memories of San Francisco. I advise you to visit the places mentioned above. I promise you, you won't be left indifferent.
