Russian forces occupied the venue alongside the neighbouring Donbas Arena during the outbreak of hostilities, forcing an abrupt transfer of site administration away from Ukrainian authorities. This ongoing military control ended sanctioned competitive league play and severed the grounds from the global sporting calendar.
