Branko: cosa c’è intorno, come arrivare e quando andare · 2026

Daily commuters between New Belgrade and the old town learn quickly that walking across the span beats sitting through the frequent vehicle bottlenecks.

Informazioni sul luogo

Branko's Bridge connects central Belgrade directly with New Belgrade across the Sava, carrying heavy road transit, municipal bus routes, and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Erected to replace the fallen King Alexander Bridge, the crossing rests directly on the original stone pylons decorated by Ivan Meštrović in the Serbo-Byzantine style. The German firm MAN engineered the continuous steel box girder, while Belgrade company Mostprojekt later built a parallel span to double transit capacity. Its common name comes from Brankova Street, which feeds traffic from the historic quarter onto the deck.

Trolleybuses once ran across the structure before municipal bus routes took over passenger transit between Zeleni Venac, New Belgrade, and Zemun. Chronic vehicle congestion makes crossing on foot a practical choice for daily commuters. A dedicated outdoor elevator designed by Milutin Gec links the deck cycle path to the riverbank promenade, while Mostogradnja carried out full renovations after severe walkway deterioration.

Hooray!!!! Moving time!!! or "Children of the Dungeon")

For two whole weeks, we lived in the hotel room where we worked... we were eagerly waiting for July 21st, the day we would move to the Moose Creek hotel! At first, we had no idea where we would be living... we could only guess... but we were sure it would definitely be better there! We were living at the very edge of town, and there was simply nowhere to walk... And we were dreaming of eating normal hot food, or at least drinking hot tea!!!) And then that long-awaited day arrived! As luck would have it, I had to work at the Moose Creek hotel that day, and they gave me a bunch of rooms that I cleaned until 4 PM... Then Viki drove me to Grizzly, we picked up Aselya and our luggage, and happily drove back... Viki led us to our apartment and... oops, it turned out we had to live in the basement... well, don't think it was a literal basement... our mini-apartment was just located right under the guest rooms. But in principle, we were satisfied... the most important thing was that there was a KITCHEN!!!!! A STOVE!!!! and a FRIDGE!!! And of course, we had a shower and a toilet (how could we live without that). We were on cloud nine, and despite the fatigue and having no food in our stomachs, we trudged to Walmart (which was now even further away from us) to buy a bunch of groceries and finally cook some real food!) By the way, right across from us lived 2 guys from Macedonia (Petar and Branko) and one Bulgarian (Jacob, although his real name is Yanko)... and a little further away lived 2 more Bulgarians (Nic and Kris). These were the guys we worked with at the same hotel for the rest of the summer. At first, it was strange to me how guys could be housekeepers, but then Aselya and I were convinced that guys can clean really well (take note, ladies))
