Informazioni sul luogo

The Palace Museum occupies the former imperial seat of the Ming and Qing dynasties at the centre of the capital.

The complex functioned across several centuries as the ceremonial and political heart of imperial rule. Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties resided within the grounds, directing state affairs from courts built in traditional Chinese palatial style. UNESCO recognizes the vast enclosure as the world's largest preserved assemblage of ancient wooden architecture, drawing international conservation teams alongside standard gallery visitors.

Public conversion began only after the abdication and eventual eviction of the final emperor from the Inner Court. Military conflict subsequently forced staff to pack imperial treasures into thousands of transport crates for evacuation south. While many repatriated crates returned to the capital, significant portions of the original imperial inventory remain permanently divided between facilities in Taipei and Nanjing.
