Designed by Wilhelm Stiassny and constructed by Alois Richter, the hall replaced older communal houses including the Zigeiner, Velkodvorská, and New synagogues. It took its initial dedication from the imperial jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph, while local usage retains the Jerusalem Synagogue title from its Nové Město street setting.
