Residents along quai Saint-Vincent trade quiet evenings for regular bells and foot traffic outside their door.
Augustinian monks initiated construction on quai Saint-Vincent under architectural plans by Léonard Roux, while Joseph Janin oversaw final completion. Financial support from Louis Le Dauphin earned the building its original dedication before it assumed its current name. A detailed construction account book documents this early era. State authorities later listed the property as a protected historical monument.
Secular crises altered the nave into a military hospital, a storage depot, and a police station. Decades later, Mortamet directed extensive structural restorations. During wartime resistance, Catholic, Protestant, and agnostic residents gathered covertly in the crypt for political study. A destructive fire gutting the interior prompted full rebuilding, culminating in the return of liturgical services and a platform organ.
