स्थान के बारे में

Rising above First Avenue, this dark glass monolith altered the East Side skyline amid bitter neighbourhood opposition.

The residential tower occupies the former site of the United Engineering Center in Turtle Bay. Its development involved acquiring unused air rights from surrounding properties, including the Japan Society and the Church of the Holy Family. Local community members and prominent broadcasters mounted legal challenges in state court, arguing that the dark glass structure would overshadow the neighbouring United Nations Secretariat.

Financed by German banking institutions alongside a South Korean corporate partner, the black glass monolith briefly held the record as the tallest residential building in the world. Its massive upper penthouse was subsequently divided into smaller units after failing to find a single buyer. Beyond housing private residents, the property served as a backdrop for national television broadcasts and independent feature films.
