About the place
Katuaq operates as the primary venue for performing arts, cinema screenings, and community exhibitions in the capital.
The cultural complex emerged from a joint partnership between the Greenland Home Rule Government, the Nuuk Municipal Council, and the Nordic Council of Ministers. Architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen designed the building to anchor cultural events in the capital. It hosts concerts, public exhibitions, and conferences throughout the year.

Beyond hosting municipal assemblies and regional conferences, the facility operates as the primary cinema and exhibition space in Nuuk. Long-term residents rely on the foyer and auditoriums as an indoor gathering space during severe subarctic weather, which turns the cultural centre into a shared community living room for town life.
