À propos du lieu

Compact coastal streets center on a historic working waterfront.

Downtown commerce clusters tightly enough that residents complete daily routines on foot between local storefronts and eateries. Leaving the central corridor requires private transport, as the community bicycle program has ended and local car rentals operate out of neighboring Groton. Regional rail connections run directly through the local station, linking the community with larger transit hubs like Boston and New York.

Waterfront docks accommodate coastal boaters, while ferries arrive from nearby islands with space for passenger bicycles. The food scene reflects this shoreline setting, dominated by seafood establishments and historic taverns where evening crowds gather. Several dining spots close outside the warm season, meaning temporary residents face a smaller selection of active kitchens and public spaces during the colder winter months.

Stop 7. Sunsets

Sunsets deserve their own post. While choosing cities, I looked at hundreds of pictures, and the sunsets in San Diego really touched my soul. The palm trees against the pink-purple sky looked fantastic. And there was no turning back. I had to get there by any means necessary. It warmed my heart so much that I found someone who was ready to rush to the other side of the country with me JUST for a sunset!!! We drove to the other coast to a lighthouse, but the road to it turned out to be closed. Artem made me go through the barriers, and I saw something incredible: the ocean in a haze, a gray-green landscape, mystery and mysticism - it was incredibly beautiful. We had already given up hope of seeing that very sunset, but Artem didn't let me give up, and we raced to another point - to a cliff. And there it was. The thing that makes you freeze with delight. The reason you can't stop smiling. The thing that makes you want to love and hug the whole world. Standing in an embrace, we enjoyed how the red-orange sunset dissolved into the clouds to the sound of the waves. We couldn't believe the reality of what was happening. It was a stunning sight that I want to return to. And then there was the sunset in San Francisco. The agonizing road to the Golden Gate paid off in full. Tyoma made me break the rules again and lifted me over the fence. And I realized that it is a crime to keep such beauty under prohibition. The bright Californian sun gifted us an equally bright sunset. Purple waves crashed against the rocks, and the cold wind played in my hair. After something like this, you dream of a house by the ocean. It is the best sedative that nature provides. I will never tire of admiring every new sunset in my life.
