À propos du lieu

Belize pairs Caribbean coastline with dense inland jungle, operating as an English-speaking bridge between Central America and the West Indies.

The country occupies the Caribbean coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico and Guatemala. As a member of the Commonwealth and CARICOM, it maintains English as its official language alongside widely spoken Spanish. Maya civilization left major political centres across the interior, including Caracol and Lamanai. Modern settlement reflects a mix of Creole, Garifuna, Maya, and Mestizo populations with distinct traditions.

Daily nutrition centres on stewed chicken with rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, while breakfast relies on fried dough called fry jacks. Long-term residents travel between districts on converted school buses that stop for passengers along the highways. Express routes link primary towns without roadside delays. Small scheduled passenger aircraft and water taxis connect mainland hubs to barrier islands and offshore cayes.

Household budgets face steep electricity tariffs, representing some of the highest power costs in the region. Most manufactured goods and packaged groceries arrive from abroad with heavy customs duties attached. The national currency remains pegged to the United States dollar. Settling in requires relying on open-air municipal markets for fresh fish, citrus, and staple beans to keep recurring expenses manageable.
