A story about the Work and Travel program How did I find out about the program? Seeing America… it’s a long-held dream. Perhaps my favorite movies and series filmed by American studios, English songs, and even the beloved GTA had a big influence on this;) I found out about the Work and Travel program quite a long time ago, while in middle school, I think, like most people, through YouTube;) Since then, my recommendations have been perfectly tuned, and I often got lost watching videos about the States. But, watching the beautiful picture from computer and phone screens, this big dream seemed like something very distant and unattainable, something exclusively for the “chosen ones,” the “rich,” the “specially gifted,” in general, not like everyone else… or… not like me… But that was until a certain point. Then I found out that an acquaintance of mine was in America and, as it turned out, through this program! What a surprise it was! He could do it! That means it’s possible! Why am I any worse? After looking at his photos, supplemented by a bunch of interesting stories about the experience gained at the workplace, the town he lived in, and the second bright part of the program - traveling, I realized - I need to act! This is not a dream, this is a desire and a goal! So what did I learn about the Work and Travel program? Work and Travel is a program that brings together thousands, tens of thousands of students from all over the world to the USA during summer vacation, a program that gives you the opportunity not only to immerse yourself in “American life,” but also to learn about a number of other nationalities, their culture and everyday life, as well as introduce them to your own native culture and, likely, break many stereotypes and prejudices. The coolest thing about the program, in my opinion, is its duration, because during this time you can really get to know a new country, its residents, the peculiarities of their mentality, their traditions, as well as the division of the program into two parts, actually, Work and Travel. To work hard all summer so that with money earned independently, you can think through all the details and go on an unforgettable trip! And how much beauty you can see: The main symbol of America, reflecting the entire essence of the American mentality – the Statue of Liberty, the lights of the never-sleeping Times Square, the most beautiful and well-known Central Park, the tallest building in New York – the majestic Empire State Building, the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge, without exaggeration, a WONDER of nature – Niagara Falls, the visiting card of the state of Arizona - the spectacular and majestic Grand Canyon, and the biggest dream – the most famous bridge in the world, that very embodiment of beautiful San Francisco – the Golden Gate Bridge! Of course, a huge desire to visit the heart of the state of Massachusetts – Boston, the great, oldest university in the USA – Harvard University, to visit Los Angeles, to get acquainted with the main embodiment of the world film industry – Hollywood, to walk along the famous Walk of Fame, to be a guest of the most famous amusement parks in the world – Disneyland and Disneyworld, Universal Studios and, I am convinced, many, many more, no less beautiful and wonderful places! What do I hope to learn and achieve by becoming a participant in the program? Of course, first of all, to get to know the country, its local residents, to learn the peculiarities of their culture from the inside, to make friends and acquaintances from other countries, to improve my spoken English, to plunge into the world of independence, responsibility, household management, making important decisions without anyone’s help, TRAVELING and, of course, a bunch of new emotions and impressions! How will participating in the program help my future career? I am currently a second-year university student majoring in Tourism. I think that participating in the program will make a huge contribution to my d

If I were to tell you about my travels, my friend Sam and I headed west. It wasn't easy to decide, given the short timeframe—her return ticket was 10 days earlier than mine. We managed to plan everything correctly and set off for San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. It was truly an adventure of a lifetime. We ran through airports, buses, and subways. We bought bus tickets directly on Greyhound online (it's much cheaper that way) and asked the station staff to print them for us. In San Francisco, we left my friend's luggage, bought an 11 PM ticket, and went to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We had no idea how to get there, how to get back to the station, and we were short on time. Despite that, we went. We were afraid we might be late and didn't know the bus schedule. But most importantly, we managed to take photos. We accidentally met a traveler from Dubai; he asked us to take his picture, and we told him, 'You know, we're in a hurry, we don't have much time.' He started asking questions and said he had a rental car and would be happy to drop us off where we needed to go. If it weren't for him, we definitely would have been late. We hadn't eaten since 7 AM and were starving; food wasn't included in the plane ticket price. We had half an hour left, we looked for shops, but didn't see anything. We ran into a restaurant—it looked upscale—and you should have seen our appearance: shorts, sneakers, a hoodie, and a bag in our hands. The waiter looked at us and was actually startled, giving us a look like, 'What are you doing here?' As for tickets, don't do what we did. Tickets from SF to Las Vegas were sold out, so we had to go through Los Angeles. We had to go to LA anyway at the end, since our return ticket to Boston was from LA. In Los Angeles, I found Palak from India on a website; he had recently moved from New York for work. He wrote that he would be happy to host us. It even turned out that he was in Vegas on the same day we arrived. He met us, took us to the city center, and even took our luggage to Los Angeles. Yes, yes, I trusted everyone, even though I was seeing him for the first time in my life, but my intuition didn't let me down. We walked around Las Vegas. A fantastic city. You walk into one hotel and forget about everything. Casinos, Bellagio, Caesars Palace... September 8th... In the morning, Palak met us in Los Angeles. Everything you've seen on TV is now before your eyes. Universal Pictures, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, the best Disneyland in the world. We took a tour where they show the homes of all the Hollywood stars in Beverly Hills, like Bruno Mars, Johnny Depp, Avril Lavigne, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, the house where the great singer Michael Jackson died, the hotel where Whitney Houston said goodbye to life, and many others. September 11th... From the trip, I arrived in my native Hyannis, and my friend went to New York. After staying there for 3-4 days, I felt sad that all the students had left—some home, some to travel—and all the tourists had dispersed. I packed all my things, didn't wait for Saltanat, whom I was waiting for, said goodbye to everyone individually, and decided to leave. Everyone came to wish me luck and gave me souvenirs. It was very sweet. It was sad to realize that it was all over. When Matt and Katherine saw me off for the last time, Matt had tears in his eyes. He said, 'Wherever you are, I will pray that everything goes well for you'... Most importantly, I bought a ticket from Boston to New York, but I thought the latest one from Hyannis to Boston was at 10, but it turned out to be at 8. It was already 6 PM. Thanks to Mr. Richard, who, while picking me up, reminded me and suggested buying the ticket first instead of picking up the luggage. I managed to fit it into 2 hours, did everything necessary, stopped by Dunkin' and Stop and Shop to say goodbye to my colleagues, and was at the station 10 minutes before departure. The feeling that I might never return here and might never
The weather cleared up in the morning, and by that time we were already about 400 kilometers from Los Angeles. Not bad at all)) Having arrived in Los Angeles for 2 days, we spent quite a lot of time looking for things to see, because the city is HUGE and you have no idea where to go, so this chapter will be a list) So, the main places to see in sunny LA: 1) Hollywood. The symbol of Los Angeles. That is, the place you go if you only have half an hour in the city. You just have to take a photo by that sign, that's it. Consider it a good luck charm)) Although it is located quite far from everything and it's not easy to get to, they say you can even climb up to the letters, but it will take about an hour and a half... 2) Walk of Fame. Contrary to our expectations, it's not a nice pedestrian avenue, but just a street with stars instead of manhole covers) There are tons of stars, most of these names you haven't seen anywhere except on this floor, but it would be a sin not to step on Spielberg, Jackson, and Sophia Loren))) The Hollywood Wax Museum is located right here with all sorts of Snoop Doggs and other rascals made of wax. You can take photos, you can touch them, you can't melt them. I don't know why, those are the rules here)) Nearby is Ripley's Believe It or Not!, where all sorts of interesting trinkets are collected, and the Guinness World of Records Museum, where similar trinkets are described. Tickets are around $20 everywhere. Ripley's is the most normal of them all - a bunch of incomprehensible paradoxical oddities and fruits of drug-fueled imagination. Portraits made of chewing gum, the world's smallest cars, clocks running backwards - in general, a full set))) 3) Kodak Theatre - the country's main cinema. The imprints of star feet in cement are divided into 2 groups. One - normal boots, the second - half-sized ones, looking like a small iron with a dot nearby, such as Marilyn Monroe's, for example) 4) Beverly Hills - apparently the most luxurious residential area in the world. Villas, fences, and lush greenery, as if mocking all these sparse hills. Lamborghinis drive along the main shopping street, Rodeo Drive, and fans of old and new stars roam Mulholland Drive, eager to see the residence of their idols. By the way, Elvis's house is here too... 5) Santa Monica - a kind of public beach in Los Angeles. The water is dirty and cold, the beach is no cleaner, but warmer, so we never got around to going into the water. We had to go home and we messed up - as we were told later, the main seaside place here is Santa Barbara. 6) Santa Barbara - white walls, red tiled roofs. Houses in the Spanish style are buried in greenery and ocean blue. Porticos, columns, beautiful people. The area is almost more expensive than Beverly Hills, but also on the coast - in general, what an ordinary village guy usually needs))) We didn't see it ourselves, but they say (and it looks like that in photos) that it's really cool there. If you have the chance, definitely go. 7) Russian, Chinese, Black, Armenian, and other neighborhoods. Want to see Russia or China from 20 years ago? Go there. And as for the Black neighborhood - first study kung fu for 3 years and then go in peace))))
