Commuters heading into the Loop face biting wind tunnels along LaSalle Street, trading quiet residential commutes for crowded rail platforms in the central financial core.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago manages central banking operations across Iowa and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Its LaSalle Street headquarters anchors the financial corridor of the Loop. The landmark Beaux-Arts structure was designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst and White to centralize operations that had previously operated out of scattered Loop offices.
Regional coordination prompted the institution to open an additional branch office in Detroit after Michigan bankers faced travel delays. The LaSalle Street complex stands directly opposite the Continental Illinois Building by the same architectural firm. Inside the main facility, the bank maintains a Money Museum open to public visitors, while executive leadership under Austan Goolsbee oversees district policy.
