À propos du lieu

John Calvin established the original academy to train theologians and civil magistrates for the local republic.

The institution began as a theological seminary directed by the Company of Pastors. Legal training joined the curriculum shortly after inception to prepare magistrates. Secular expansion continued until modern structural reforms under French administration converted the historical school into a comprehensive university system.

Decentralised facilities shape the experience of international scholars who must integrate directly into urban neighbourhoods. As a major national research institution, the university balances deep roots in public education with wide international representation, having awarded pioneering degrees in sociology decades ago.
