Promoters originally placed temporary seating on the grounds after Estadio Azteca denied a tour performance by Paul McCartney. Grupo CIE developed the permanent structure, which operated under the name Foro Sol before a naming partnership with GNP Seguros established its current identity.

Beyond headlining music concerts, the arena integrates directly into the racing circuit of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The track layout runs straight through the stadium bowl for the Mexican Grand Prix and the Mexico City ePrix. The facility has also staged the Race of Champions, Stadium Super Trucks, and NASCAR competitions, following extensive facility renovations coordinated between OCESA and its sponsors.
