If you are going to San Francisco…

I have a special connection to San Francisco, so to speak. Whenever I hear the name, Scott McKenzie's song "San Francisco" plays in my head. And the lines: "If you are going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..." I love this city; you know, it's not your typical American city. Yes, it has skyscrapers, huge traffic jams, cool cars—the list goes on forever—but it's different. The people there are different, somehow; they are kinder, they strive for something, they are constantly growing. And the weather, for me, is just perfect. It's +20 all year round; sure, it could be a bit warmer in summer and colder in winter, but that doesn't change the overall vibe. San Francisco reminds me of Italy in some way. I highly recommend visiting the "Palace of Fine Arts"; then you'll understand what I meant. The architecture there is incredible, and the houses around it also look more European. And if you are traveling as a couple, I recommend a romantic spot called "Shoreline Park." It's actually in Silicon Valley, but it's worth it. Most importantly, bring some food and a blanket; I can tell you for sure, there is plenty to enjoy there, especially at sunset. Of course, don't forget the most important places like the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Lombard Street, or Twin Peaks. They are a must-visit. I've been to San Francisco twice; apparently, I fell in love with it so much that I returned a second time. I ended my first trip to this city with a hike to "Lands End," and you know, I had only seen such scenery in pictures on the internet. At that moment, tears involuntarily welled up in my eyes, and I felt very sad that in a few hours I would be leaving. For me, it was the perfect place in every sense. And seeing the waves crashing against the rocks is a mesmerizing sight. On my second visit, I dedicated a whole day to the tourist town of Santa Cruz. It's about a two-hour drive from San Francisco, maybe less. For me, it was like a little Los Angeles—the same palm trees, the same beach. You won't believe it, but the weather was even +35, which is very rare for Northern California. You can get there by car or by bus. If you are traveling with a group, order an Uber or Lyft and go for it; it won't be expensive, but if you still want to save money, the bus is also an option. To be honest, I could go on for a long time because I love this city. I want to keep some places as my personal memories of San Francisco. I advise you to visit the places mentioned above. I promise you, you won't be left indifferent.

Stop 4. San Francisco

This year, I wanted to burn San Francisco to the ground and rebuild it from scratch. An unjustifiable amount of money, effort, and most annoyingly, time, was wasted. You should only come here with a car; otherwise, you risk losing all your energy and motivation on the steep street climbs. The sun scorched my skin and burned out my mood. Besides sleeping, I wanted nothing! Only my and Tema's love for sunsets kept us moving. And that was the best memory of the city. Then we reached an island of peace and beauty - Sausalito. Yachts and mountains visible through the fog, wine, and food. What else do you need? But we were waiting for the moment we could finally escape. Beautiful views and the whole idea no longer brought us joy. That's why, this time, I realized that I will only return to the surroundings.

Stop 3. San Diego

Sun, ocean, sunsets. The reason we came here. And as a bonus, we got a bit of Mexican fire. The desire to visit Mexico has only grown, so... There is an atmosphere here befitting a resort: a slow pace of life, smiling people, warm ocean air. Everything is set for you to relax and enjoy yourself. Leaving the airport, I stopped breathing, and tears welled up in my eyes from the beauty and delight. The sun sparkled on the blue surface, dozens of yachts stood in neat rows along the shore, and the trip promised to be wonderful. And it was. I visited several main attractions and walked endlessly. The pearl was Coronado. A small, wonderful, heavenly island. White scorching sand, beautiful houses, and expensive cars. An ideal combination to finally get into the ocean. And neither the cold water nor the off-season could stop me. I want to return here in 2 cases: with a great company for more fun, to fully immerse myself in the bright and hot nightlife to the sounds of Mexican songs. with family, to calmly enjoy the beauty and flavor of the city. Thank you, San Diego. It was warm, delicious, calm, and infinitely picturesque.

Green

Conditions of the expiration date of J1 visa allowed me to stay in US extra 30 days but I was planning to take the plane back to Russia on 15th of September because my closest people had their birthdays this month, my girlfriend was getting married and my study had already got started. During my staying in US I was texting with a guy from my hometown that left it for living in LA. He knew that originally the only dream I had about US was San Francisco so he bought tickets for both of us on Grayhound from SF to LA. Despite all this important events I had at home I considered to delay my departure to follow my dream. Maine is the most northern state on the west coast on the border with Canada so it’s pretty far from the east coast of California, where I had to be to take this bus. Anyway we found apartments in San Francisco on airbnb, all green with two dogs, garden and hot tab on the roof. I’ve never seen him before so I had some flowers in my hair that we can recognize each other. As I figured out then he had never though about this song so he decided that I am crazy about flowers. We spent three days walking up and down hills of San Francisco, talking about everything in the way that we knew each other for long. Hi Alex! I spent couple days hiking in National Parks. I didn't write you earlier because I turned off all electronic devices to be free from technologies and closer to nature. We went there through Utha, first national park that we've visited was Bryce, trails ran through mountains, called hoodoos, it's odd-shapes pillars of rock, they look extraordinary because of nature forces and erosion, and it could be imagined, that mountain rage forms fantasy castles, in the splendid and magnificence of this canyon you could feel the reminiscent of the passage of time. Its massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red soared to the sky. They were sun burnt and looked like deserts or Mars. On our way to the next national park we chose the wrong serpentine road, nature was so different, autumn has already came there so all trees were in fire. Second place that we've been was Zyon National Park, But the filling of this park was full of life because of the emerald mountain creek flowing down the slopes to the Virgin river. It waters soil and mountain feet are very green. Poplars with silver leaves are so tall there. In our trip we reached the place called Angels Landing.

San Francisco, or a vibrant corner of freedom.

We flew to the disco-style city via Seattle and arrived on the afternoon of October 1st. None of us had been here before. Who are we? 1 Uzbek and 8 Romanians. What do we have? A hostel somewhere in the middle of the city. How to get there? ? Well, I guess I downloaded apps on my phone with the city's transport system. The main system to get from the airport to the city is BART, which costs $2.25 for a ticket. By the way, tickets for many systems are shared, so one ticket can be used on other vehicles as well. And it is valid for 90 minutes. We barely made it to our motel, argued 100 times because no one believed in my ability to read Google Maps. Oh yeah, and we managed to lose two girls at the subway exit. So, the journey was unique. From there, it was a 2 km walk with suitcases. Absolutely great. We barely made it and got our rooms. So. The hostel. I think you understand the point. If not, I'll explain. It's a place where you don't even really want to sleep. Usually, these are the most budget-friendly options for those who don't want to sit in the room but want to see the city. For example, in a small room, there will be 6 beds. Basically a dormitory, roughly speaking. And it turned out that I had to live for 3 days with 5 girls, and our other 3 guys were in a room with 4 beds. There were three of them and someone else. But for some reason, they were put in a room with 6 beds, where there were three of them and three, quote, "scary freaks." I didn't see them myself, but in the end, it turned out that 9 of us were sleeping on 6 beds. Cute, isn't it? Well, I don't really care. I wanted to see the city. For $75 for 3 nights in San Francisco, I think it was fine. Anyway, we left our things and went for a walk. From there, we, of course, headed straight to the Golden Gate Bridge, which is perhaps the most famous landmark of the city. And, considering that we were not yet fully familiar with public transport here, the idea arose to walk from downtown. If you believe Google Maps, it's about 11 km of travel + we constantly turned off the road to see something else along the way. Standing right in front of it, I was speechless. These emotions are simply impossible to describe. On the way, we really turned in different directions a lot, so we arrived at the bridge by the very evening. In addition to the cherished goal, we managed to see the Palace of Fine Arts, about which I will say something more on the last, bonus page. On the way back, we were terribly tired but had no idea how to get home. We walked almost blindly, using my logic, and constantly arguing, and then accidentally stumbled upon a bus that had already finished its shift. A kind woman took us to the nearest station and explained how to get home. Having arrived, we found ourselves a new mission: how to take a shower for 9 people in a hostel with 6 bathrooms. Even though we are not the only ones who want to take a shower. Therefore, after all these adventures, we didn't really care where we would sleep and how. The main thing was to lie down somewhere and fall asleep, which we, in fact, did. October 2nd. Day 2. In the morning, there was no electricity in the whole area. Such things happen in America too, can you imagine? After leaving the house and having breakfast, we used another transport system - MUNI, which is more focused on transporting passengers within the city. And we immediately went to Ocean Beach, where we spent the whole morning until lunch. The trip to this beach became one of the brightest events of the whole summer for me. If you compare NY and SF in this regard, California is definitely a step ahead. The beach is huge, and everyone around is having fun, everyone is happy. You can't drink here, but no one really cares, not even the patrol officer who drives along the beach every 5-10 minutes. Ocean, beer, new American friends - this was our daytime entertainment today. What I also really liked - the beach is perfectly clean. And there are many dogs around

San Francisco is a disco-style city!

We've finally reached the West Coast, we're at the Pacific Ocean. Our first stop is San Francisco. My first thought was: it actually exists! This city is real and exactly like in the photos! Even better. San Francisco is known for its steep hills, a mix of Victorian and modern architecture, the list goes on... Walking along the inclined streets (sometimes 45-50 degrees) was just wonderful! But we soon got tired of climbing uphill and decided to take a ride on the famous Cable Car. The 'terminal' where the cable car picks up passengers was packed with tourists, the line was definitely half an hour long! We took some photos by it and went for a walk in Chinatown. We bought souvenirs and had a bite to eat, and then the cable car caught up with us. So we got our ride after all! We rode to Lombard Street – the crookedest street in the world. Stunning, I don't think I've seen anything more beautiful. Not the road itself, but the surroundings – the vegetation, flowers, greenery... mmm. Then we headed to Pier 39. We wanted to go to Alcatraz Island, but it turns out you have to book in advance, so we had to settle for photos with the island in the background. Not bad either!:) As an animal lover, I couldn't pass by the San Francisco Zoo, which was conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from our motel. This zoo is probably the most magnificent and well-maintained one I've ever seen. A large area, well-equipped enclosures and cages, lots of trees. In short, pure Wow, Meow, and Baa. By the way, you could feed and brush the goats yourself, although one of them did butt us. And in San Francisco, and throughout California as we realized later, there are a lot of Chinese people. Apparently, it was much closer for them to migrate there. They are quite friendly; I met one woman just by sitting on the bus. In the two stops we rode together, I think I learned her entire family history, about all her children, husbands, dogs, etc.))) In short, San Francisco is pure beauty, picturesque views, and Chinese food everywhere!

10 reasons why I love San Francisco

Letter from September 4th Sender: Anastasia Lebedeva, San Francisco, California Recipient: Yulya Keda, Kazakhstan Hi! Honestly, I thought I'd write sooner, but I didn't have the time – we spent 3 unforgettable days in San Francisco! Now I understand why Anya wanted to come back here so much! The city is just indescribably beautiful! That's how I put it))) Its whole charm is that it's very different from other American cities! I don't even know where to start! I have an idea! Let me write about why this city is so wonderful instead! 10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO 1) The best way to get to know any city is just to walk wherever you want, ON FOOT! There are no huge highways in San Fran, so you can walk and enjoy the views as much as you like! Of course, the city is built on hills – so the roads take on unimaginable angles! 2) It really is very beautiful! I took tons of photos! The coolest thing is that the city is beautiful in its diversity! Palace of Fine Arts (especially in the evening when it gets dark, the view is stunning), City Hall, Painted Ladies, Japantown, Chinatown, Union Square (a cool square), Haight-Ashbury (a very positive neighborhood)), Coit Tower, Pacific Heights.... 3) You can spend the whole day walking around Fisherman’s Wharf: the embankment, the deep blue ocean, Alcatraz Island, the sound of the waves, seagulls circling over the water – probably one of the most beautiful places in the city! 4) Cable Cars! OMG! After waiting in a huuuuge line, we managed to ride the famous little trams! We specifically took the side seats so we could stand while riding, take photos of people along the way, and enjoy the views!!! An amazing feeling! 5) The city is full of surprises! We spent half the day on the embankment, and by the time we rented bikes, it was already 5 o'clock. Our goal was to cross the Golden Gate Bridge! Anya had talked our ears off (yours too))) about how much she likes this bridge and how many photos she took last year! So to say I was anticipating it is an understatement! But imagine our surprise when we reached the bridge, or rather, the place where it was supposed to be, and discovered that THE BRIDGE WAS GONE!! We were standing in the middle of nowhere (as Americans say), and there was FOG all around, so thick that it was impossible to see the Golden Gate Bridge! After wandering around a bit, we decided to go through with our plan anyway! We rode across the bridge (yes, we found it by touch))), our hair was wet from the fog, it was windy, but we felt great! White haze all around! Anyway, after reaching the other end, we stopped and started sharing our impressions. And when the sun came out and the red outlines of the bridge supports became visible, we took pictures, and, tired but happy, continued our journey. On the way back, we bought t-shirts - I biked the Golden Gate Bridge! The day was a success! 6) Golden Gate Bridge! No words! It's the symbol of the city! 7) It has its own atmosphere here! Probably because of the architecture! Or maybe because of the weather! Fog is a very common occurrence, but it's so cool here in the fall! 8) Golden Gate Park. Everything is so beautiful, green, tons of flowers! Tons of photos! 9) Every time you can find something new: cozy cafes, museums (we managed to see a bit of Dali and Picasso), bookstores, parks, people! 10) You want to come back here again and again! p.s. The flight to New York is soon – we'll be there tomorrow, and on the 8th we fly home! So we'll be back soon! p.p.s. I like your VK status)))))))

San Diego

It was easy for me to get from the bus station to my hostel because it was also located in the center. If you want to go to San Diego to swim, you can find hostels in other parts of the city. But my goal was to see the city as well. Arriving in the evening, I checked in and decided to take a walk, and in just 2.5 hours I walked almost the entire central part of the city along the waterfront. Returning to the hostel, I met many residents as well as the hostel staff; they turned out to be very nice and fun. They go to bars and clubs almost every night. But since I wasn't 21 yet, I had to stay at the hostel, but it was fun there too until about 2 a.m. They even have their own mini-bar. Still, I remember this hostel very well because the staff was incredibly hospitable. By the way, you can get a job there in exchange for accommodation. I saw Balboa Park, and the zoo is nearby, but since I don't like zoos, I didn't go there, but I don't regret it at all. Actually, the city is very interesting on its own, and the comfortable weather conditions just make it easy to get used to this city and fall in love with it instantly. I went to Coronado Island, it's also very beautiful there, especially the beach. You also need to see San Diego Old Town, it's the oldest part of the city and there are many Mexican restaurants and souvenirs there. They even hold a Mexican national holiday there, and a huge number of people gather. From this place, if you have a car, it's very easy to get to the very beautiful La Jolla beach. The sea is very beautiful and clean, surfers swim there, and even sea lions))
