À propos du lieu

Daily routines revolve around Atlantic ports, inland farms, and shared transit.

The national capital sits on a mountainous peninsula framed by the largest natural harbour on the continent. Arriving international travelers land at Lungi across the wide estuary and must cross by water taxi or ferry to reach urban hubs. Within the settlements, commuters rely on crowded poda-podas and motorbikes, while drivers face steep tolls on the central highway toward regional administrative centres.

Subsistence farming and mineral extraction drive the domestic economy. Most agricultural households grow rice, which anchors nearly every meal alongside spicy sauces made from cassava leaves, potato leaves, and groundnuts. Mining operations produce diamonds and titanium ore, but formal banking infrastructure remains scarce outside major hubs, where automated teller machines and card payments are strictly limited.

Radio broadcasts serve as the primary source of public information across the provinces, far outpacing printed newspapers. Long-term residents carry portable torches to navigate unlit streets and open roadside gutters after dark. Tropical illnesses remain constant hazards that demand strict preventative medicine, while domestic legal statutes strictly prohibit the possession and use of narcotics.

Visa et aspects pratiques

Choisir un passeport

Définissez votre passeport — les délais de traitement, les frais et les documents requis diffèrent selon le passeport.

Bon à savoir
  • Leaving a vehicle parked on designated primary roads such as Wilkinson Road is forbidden, and authorities immobilize non-compliant cars using wheel clamps.
  • Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol is monitored by police utilizing roadside breath tests.
  • Crossing land frontiers in a personal vehicle requires official transit permits.
1 règle supplémentaire
  • Entering through land border checkpoints with an electronic visa necessitates bringing physical paper confirmation sheets because inland stations lack internet database connectivity.
