À propos du lieu

The Bible Lands Museum examines ancient Near Eastern civilizations that shaped biblical history.

The institution operates as an archaeological museum in Jerusalem dedicated to the civilizations recorded in biblical texts. Rather than isolating Jewish history alone, the galleries display artifacts from Egyptians, Canaanites, Philistines, Arameans, Hittites, Elamites, Phoenicians, and Persians. This comparative layout enables researchers to examine regional trade and artistic traditions across the ancient Near East.

Collector Elie Borowski established the institution to house his private holdings of ancient art, which he transferred from a museum in Toronto. During a visit to Jerusalem, Borowski met Batya Weiss, who urged him to relocate the antiquities and introduced him to Mayor Teddy Kollek. Municipal authorities provided the building plot, and Borowski later married Weiss after completing the relocation of his antiquities to the city.
