Pirita Convent stands as a ruined dolomite complex that once housed Livonia's largest medieval monastic community.

Merchants from Tallinn initiated the project and received counsel from monks sent from Vadstena Abbey. Built under architect Heinrich Swalbart using quarried dolomite, the church became the largest ecclesiastical structure in medieval Estonia. The complex functioned as a Bridgettine monastery accommodating both nuns and monks, eventually becoming the largest Catholic convent across Livonia.

Several Tallinn merchants who promoted the foundation later entered the cloister as monks themselves. The community endured through the Protestant Reformation before Russian forces led by Ivan the Terrible attacked during the Livonian War, plundering and burning the structures. The site remained abandoned thereafter, while surrounding residents turned the adjacent grounds into a local cemetery.
