Neighbourhood residents rely on the calm park paths and covered walkways to escape the dense city bustle of Chinatown.
The site comprises two distinct spaces joined by an artificial pond: a freely accessible public park and a ticketed classical scholar garden. Architects from Suzhou collaborated with local designers to construct the complex on former railway land. The layout applies classical Taoist and balance principles, placing craggy limestone rocks against delicate greenery and still water to mirror the open sky.
The garden honors the nationalist leader who stayed in Vancouver repeatedly while gathering local community support for political reform. Local winter conditions resemble those of eastern China, allowing horticulturists to cultivate traditional plant varieties that mark seasonal cycles. Carved woodwork displays symbolic bats and mythical creatures, maintaining a cultural bridge between Asian traditions and the urban neighborhood.
