À propos du lieu

Canberra Stadium anchors professional rugby in the national capital, hosting league and union matches on a dedicated rectangular pitch.

Philip Cox designed the venue beside the Australian Institute of Sport in Bruce as an athletics arena. Ground operators eliminated the running track to accommodate the Canberra Raiders after their relocation from Queanbeyan, establishing a shared winter home with the ACT Brumbies. Seated grandstands surround the rectangular turf to keep spectators close to professional league and union clashes.

Reconstruction for Olympic soccer altered the playing surface from an oval into a rectangle. That redesign ended Australian rules football matches and experimental cricket at the venue, sending those sports across town to Manuka Oval. Heavy renovation budget overruns triggered political fallout that forced Chief Minister Kate Carnell from office, while unseasonal matchday snowfall covered the turf during play.
