Sobre el lugar

Centuries of royal construction left behind a fortified palace where Islamic arcades meet Christian halls.

The compound originated as an early Islamic citadel before expanding into a sprawling royal seat under the Abbadids and Almohads. Surviving spaces illustrate this layered heritage, from the stucco work of the Palacio del Yeso to the rib-vaulted underground chambers of the Baños de María de Padilla. The complex remains an official residence for the Spanish royal family, functioning as a working state property rather than a static relic. Modern cinema productions, including international feature films and television dramas, routinely use the halls as backdrops.
