Adding the canopy eliminated the stage, converted open standing terraces into seated rows, and established the site as an indoor sports hub.

City planners expected the newer Oslo Spektrum to take over major athletic competitions, but steep operational costs made that downtown arena impractical for league play. Jordal Amfi therefore retained its position as the primary ice hockey venue in town, later adding an adjacent youth rink and modernized technical systems. The facility continued hosting international championship tournaments, boxing matches, and community skating.
