Surviving red brick mounds mark the ancient urban core of the realm.

Soba anchored the realm as an expansive urban center along the Blue Nile. Royal authority embraced Christianity under the Coptic Patriarchate of Alexandria, adapting Greek liturgy and monumental church architecture. Builders erected large basilicas featuring wooden support beams and whitewashed interiors, though extensive brick robbing across later eras dismantled much of the standing masonry.

Rainfall cultivation across the fertile Gezira plains produced steady sorghum harvests and supported large cattle herds, giving the region an agricultural advantage over drier territories. Foreign merchants established quarters in the capital, transporting imported glass, textiles, and fine pottery in exchange for hides, gold, and local produce along established caravan networks.

About a program WORK&TRAVEL in general and my experience

WHO AM I? First of all, let’s make an acquaintance, I’m Diana, I’m 20 years old, and I’m a student of the faculty of foreign languages. I study English and German and this is truly curious for me. I’ve been studying English since the 8th grade and exactly then I understood that I’m really into this, that’s why I entered the faculty of foreign languages, where I also began to study German. To tell the truth, English always was closer to me than German, and maybe because of it, I know English better. It’s clear that I also wanted to talk to some native speakers to check my knowledge or even confidence. Fortunately, I had such a possibility last year, but before I’ll tell you about it, I must explain the way how I hit this point… 2 YEARS AGO… The first time when I learnt about some exchange programs for students was the first year of my studying at the university. To be more specific, it was the first summer for me as a student, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t want just to rest, I contemplated how to find such an activity, where I could travel and earn some money. At first, I found the program Erasmus+, it’s an exchange program, in which students can study in another country and that’s it. That idea was inappropriate for me, cause I also wanted to clear my mind and not think about studying. Luckily, I watched a video on YouTube, in which a girl told about her participating in Work&Travel USA, after watching I was overwhelmed with emotions, I really liked the idea to go abroad, to another country and earning some money. And that’s why I started to search the information about this program. First of all, I found the stories about other students’ experiences, the information about companies who help the students to make their dreams true, also I learnt all the conditions thoroughly. So, everyone can take part in the program if she or he is: A student (full-time education in higher education institution) A student of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th course of study(not the last one, it’s very important) More than 18 years old Able to speak English at level pre-intermediate Also, I learnt that the program allows going not only to the USA but also to other countries, for instance, to Germany. MY EXPERIENCE At the end of summer 2021, I told my friend about all my ideas and she agreed to go with me, she was truly glad to hear such a suggestion from me. So, we decided to go to Germany. Why did we choose Germany, but not the USA? The answer is quite simple, we were afraid of the huge distance and new, such a big country. But to tell the truth, the idea of the USA was more attractive to me, but the fear was stronger than my desire. Now I understand the previous “me”, but everything changed after the summer of 2022, I’m not afraid anymore, I’ve already been so far from my relatives, friends and it was okay, 3 months or even more isn’t a big term. This participating in Work&Travel Germany became the reboot for me and I liked it so much. When you try Work&Travel once, it will be hard for you to give up. Why did I decide to take part in Work&Travel USA? As you’ve already understood I was glad to spend my summer in Germany as a participant of Work&Travel Germany, but my first desire was exactly the USA. Why? As I study at the faculty of foreign languages, where I study English and German, it would be good for my educational skills. I really like English and even in Germany when I tried to speak German, it was more convenient for me to speak English, then I decided that I will go to an English-speaking country the next time. If all European countries are similar, even Germany and Ukraine, then the USA is quite different. Even in my childhood, when I watched some American movies, I saw that the architecture, people and laws are different; I really enjoyed those high skyscrapers, friendly people and strict laws. Maybe, I’m mistaken, but I want to check it out. Now I’m more confident and if in 2021 I was scared of the thought about the USA, then now I’m

The impact of travel on young people

Dear Members of the Selection Committee, My name is Suttibaev Marat and I am a third-year student in Auezov South Kazakhstan University at the faculty of Philology. My specialty is teacher and translator of foreign languages: two foreign languages that are English and Korean. I am elated to seize this unique opportunity which will expand my valid education and build new chances for my future career. I am incredibly interested in going to America because of its multicultural environment, wide range of services to find a job and friendly society. As I always planned to spend some time abroad during my studies, I started to investigate “Work and travel” programme from my university time. I am eager to get insight into American culture, learn new perspectives, get experienced and exchange ideas with different people all over the world whom I will meet there. The reason is it is important for me to understand cross-cultural differences and improve international communicative skills. Therefore, I passed exam to enter South Kazakhstan University from my hometown Tashkent in Uzbekistan. Now, it is my aim to go abroad, exactly to America. I am sure that I will get the best experiences as I am foreign student here and have such a life of foreigner. However, going to America by this programme is another degree of exchanging thoughts and changing mindset as well as for me and future generation that I will teach and lead to be open to the world. Therefore, I participate constructively in all the studies and meetings with foreigners in Kazakhstan. This is the second reason that motivates me and helps to keep my eyes on this opportunity. As I am following this programme, I know that I can trust you entirely for all the process and even results of your work. I know that you do your best from the contacting with candidates till their coming back to the country. You give teaching lessons, stay connected with both sides candidates and employers during all the period. You do the arrangements and help applicants during all the stages of accomplishment of it. Therefore, over 4,000 people believe you and can rely on you to be with you in the pass of becoming practiced during 10 years from the foundation day. I am confident to have an excellent command of English-speaking people which would enable me to get on well and adjust easily. As my first experience as a foreign student was back in the autumn of 2019, I can admit that I am sociable, hard-working, reliable, self-assured, and open-minded. Such characters of my nature helped and still does to become the best of me no matter where I am. I can get on well with easy in new environment and make a lot of friends not only where I live but also with foreigners both in online and face-to-face meetings. It would be a pleasure and an honour to represent my home university and my country during three months at the America. I hope using this chance to go abroad and exchange with culture. I am sure that I will stay connected with people from America even my back to the country that will help to increase multicultural connection of our country. There are many people who come to the America from all over the world and staying in connection with them will enable me to open my own center that will help our future generation go to work or study not only to America but also to other countries constantly. I briefly believe that with me ambitious and experiences right from the day I go to America I can stir to action and help others to apply and become successful in what they want and do. Moreover, I will be able to implement new ideas and suggestions for the commercial and qualitative development of our country and I will show all the best sides, features of our country that exactly will empower our country to be a developed country. Finally, I would admit that I am extremely self-motivated and once I set a goal, I strive to achieve it. I have committed meetings with international people on numerous occasions and I

Why should I win a grant for free participation? A list of questions to which you will find an answer: Youth travel and student exchange programs - what I know about them. My experience is a small interesting/funny episode related to youth travel and/or exchange programs. Why I decided to participate in the program. What I hope to learn and achieve by getting acquainted with a new society and culture for me and talking about the culture of my country. How participation in the program will help me in my future career. What can be improved in programs - if I was responsible for exchanges, what would I change. What will be the exchange programs in twenty years? Fifty years from now? My name is Oshakbayeva Nargiz. I am 18 years old, currently I live in Almaty. I am currently a 2nd year student at Narkhoz University, where I have spent a lot of time and effort studying and selling in the same spirit that reflect my preferences and interests. I am happy to be a very active and sociable person, always ready for something new. I understand that these actions will allow me to change the situation for the better and acquire the leadership qualities necessary to achieve my goals. Currently, my goals are to visit other countries, get to know their culture, and improve my English. After all, English is also a world language that is required everywhere, even in my profession. And my choice fell on the Work and Travel program. Having studied various organizations for WORK and travel in Kazakhstan, I realized that it is the organization of the Central Research Center that can offer me the tremendous opportunities that I need to achieve everything I want. I would also like to introduce people from other countries to the wonderful culture of our people of Kazakhstan. In the end, the history of the people is worth something, and our national clothes. It is with CMO that I will be able to realize myself both professionally and in a personal context. The level of specialization here is quite high, the training methods when applying for a visa are mainly focused on practical knowledge, which, I think, is almost useful when it comes to real work and makes it easy to navigate in all possible situations. Thanks to this, I can easily put it into practice. Why do I want to travel? Where does such a desire to see the world come from? My desire was born in early childhood when I watched the program "Heads and Tails". In this program, they showed how it is possible to be able to travel with different amounts. I was looking forward to each episode with such enthusiasm, I wanted to learn more about other countries, see their traditions and culture. When I was little, I was already looking for different ways to visit other countries, what to do, who I should work with, how I should prepare for different situations. In the end, I don't know anything, but my desire to see the world was even greater. It seemed to me that it was something impossible and so inaccessible. Every day my faith and hope became stronger and stronger, and at this moment I know that I can and will be the USA. I will see the metropolis of New York, which is very long-awaited for me. I will see all the colorfulness of this city, as well as how I will work. Having saved up money, I will be able to see other states. What I once thought was a dream, after what time it will become a reality. My experience is a small interesting/funny episode related to youth travel and/or exchange programs. At the moment I was in Turkey and Russia. I won a trip to these countries thanks to my good academic performance.I especially remember Turkey. It is a very beautiful city with a rich history and culture. I will say that it is impossible to fall in love. I am a person who has seen enough Turkish TV series, and it has always been interesting for me to watch them live. Very hospitable people. And nature is worth something. I am an adventurer and a very curious person. When the group and I went to see the city,

My narrative about the Work and Travel program

Sundetkaliyev Baktygerey, 12 group Introduction It's worth starting with the fact that I learned about the program from my elder sister. And since then, I dreamed of going to America under this program. I realized that everything was real when I started at the university after listening to more and more participant experiences online (thank you,YouTube,Instagram,TikTok). My desire to follow the plan naturally evolved into a goal. I've benefited greatly from other people's experience. The main part Most young men desire to work abroad because there are so many options there. You can learn a foreign language very well, to start with. Second, you can discover the customs and cultures of the nation and observe how people live. Thirdly, you may typically meet wonderful people from all over the world and have a blast while hanging out with them. The last point is that you can earn good money that will enable you to either fully or partially resolve all of your financial concerns as a teen. So you can see that working overseas has a lot of benefits. People who have worked overseas agree that the most important factor is that you will always look back on that period as one of your happiest Students work in a variety of settings and do a variety of jobs, such as cashiers or waiters in restaurants, employees in waterparks or in crop fields, housekeepers, pool or beach guards, etc. You simply need to pick the job that you enjoy the most. Students can choose from a wide variety of programs to fill their free time throughout the summer or even longer. The most well-known translation is likely work and travel, which is essentially what it means. This program's goal is to give students the opportunity to work for a few months as they later explore the nation. I really enjoy this American program and would like to give it a shot. I'm currently learning English extensively, reading reviews of the program from students, and eagerly awaiting the realization of my goal. This trip will teach me the value of perseverance, and I hope to get physically stronger, and strengthen my social skills. I'm interested in hearing amusing or not-so-amusing life stories from my coworkers, my employer, and random people I come across. Conclusion Finally, I would want to express my gratitude to the IEC management for providing us with these possibilities! I appreciate you reading my tale and backing us in competitions like this one.

Why Work and Travel? A story about my experience for the contest.

Orynbay Aruzhan,3 Group Exchange programs create opportunities for participants to learn about a new country and its nation, develop interpersonal skills, and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. It is common to say that exchange programs create future leaders who appreciate international collaboration, tolerance and empathy. Above all that, I see this W&T program as a way to challenge myself and see what I am capable of. Living and working in another country with strangers is like forcing myself into the most uncomfortable situations and adventures possible. But I choose to do it myself because we can only grow when we are out of our comfort zone. I also do not think that the grass is always greener on the other side, I won’t be in the US screaming about how everything is great there and bad at home. I believe that there are pros and cons to each side and the best we can do as countries are to share our experiences and grow together as nations. What I plan to learn from this trip is hard work, I plan to mature, get more physically developed, and become more outgoing. I want to hear funny or not-so-funny life stories from my coworkers, my boss, and strangers I will meet along the way. Why do I want to experience hard work? I think most of my life I was pretty privileged. I studied in a nice private school, I got to do different sports and hobbies. My friends always had what they wanted, they never had to work for it. So when I got my first job two years ago, it turned my life upside down. I was looking for a job because I was bored in summer, and my coworkers- kids my age would work 12-hour shifts because they needed that money. I learned how to appreciate what was given to me, I learned to appreciate people’s work and my life as it is. When I told my friend from university I am going to participate in W&T. He said “Are you kidding me? You are spending all your time studying computer science just to go the US and wash dishes there?!”. I realized how privileged and arrogant some people can be and how I would never want to have that kind of perception of life and arrogancy towards people who do hand work like washing dishes. So for me, the W&T program is not just a way to spend a crazy summer far away from my parents. It is a way to teach myself a lesson one more time, learn discipline, learn the work ethic of another nation, and give myself the motivation to keep studying and be grateful for everything that I have. In the near future, I would like to finish my Bachelor's degree and get my Master's and Doctorate degrees while practising and working as a software engineer. But most importantly I would like to be a researcher and teach at my university(KBTU) as my role model Pakizar Shamoi. Pakizar teaches my Object Oriented Programming course right now at KBTU and is the greatest Professor I ever came across during these 2 years of college. Pakizar got her PhD in Japan and I feel like it is an important part of her journey that I want to experience too. I think a lot of her work ethic and dedication comes from people she met in Japan and the obstacles she had to overcome to get there. That is why I want to experience other nations’ cultures, work systems, their educational system like my role model did. I want to learn networking and I feel like spending a summer in the US would help to develop the soft and hard skills that I need to achieve my ambitious goals. It would give me more experience of living abroad that I will need if I will get my Master's or PhD abroad. Hopefully in future when I will teach at KBTU I will be able to tell my students stories about me travelling across the US and other countries like Pakizar does in her lectures. Talking about the culture of my country, I want to talk about our youth. About how many talents from Kazakhstan are now in comedy, music, cinema and technology? I would tell them about Moldanazar, whose music I adore, Aisultan Seitov and his recent movie «Қаш», about Sanzhar
