Məkan haqqında

Sainte Chapelle stands as a monument of Gothic architecture, commissioned to preserve sacred relics within the royal palace compound.

The royal chapel was erected within the medieval Palais de la Cité, now integrated into the Conciergerie judicial complex. Its design reflects the emperor Charlemagne palatine chapel, using stacked tiers to separate palace hierarchy. The upper sanctuary held Passion relics and admitted only the royal family with private guests. Court staff, guards, and servants gathered exclusively in the lower nave.

Davam et

Acquiring the Crown of Thorns and True Cross fragments from Latin Constantinople allowed King Louis to project religious authority across western Christendom. A private passage connected the royal apartments straight into the upper chapel, mirroring imperial access in Constantinople. Secular administrators now occupy the surrounding grounds, replacing the medieval royal residence while preserving the liturgical core.
