The installation began as a grassy landing strip known as Sandweiler Airport before handling military operations during wartime and reverting to national control. Today the site operates the country's sole paved runway in the Findel area. Beyond scheduled passenger routes, the facility maintains a secluded high-security zone where freight aircraft taxi away from passenger gates to load precious consignments of fine art and jewels.
