Hong Kong Park integrates preserved colonial military architecture with modern public landscaping directly beside the financial district.
The site originated as Cantonment Hill during early colonial administration before housing the upper garrison of Victoria Barracks. Civilian authorities took control of the land when military operations ended, and Glenealy Junior School occupied part of the terrain prior to park development. The Urban Council joined the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club to build the public grounds, formally launched by Governor David Wilson.
